When Chevrolet first introduced the C8 Corvette Coupes and Convertibles, many buyers gravitated to the Coupe as you could see the V8 engine “under glass” through the rear hatch. The ability to see the engine gave the car a truly exotic feel, and many Hardtop Convertible owners felt left out because of how their engine was simply covered with an ugly black heat shield. But Corvette enthusiasts are if nothing but industrious, and soon a Kentucky-based company named RapidRev introduced the first Clear Engine Bay Cover for the C8 Convertible.

RapidRev’s Clear Engine Bay Covers for the HTC Corvette are made from impact resistant thermoplastic designed to provide maximum durability and clarity, ensuring that your engine remains protected while still being visible. With the Clear Engine Bay Cover in place, your Corvette Convertible’s V8 engine can now be shown off, enhancing the appearance while still protecting your engine and the folding hardtop that rests on top of the cover and under the rear tonneau when the top is down. These Clear Engine Covers fit both the Stingray and Z06 HTCs and install easily using OEM hardware.

RapidRev's Clear Engine Bay Cover

Since its initial launch, the RapidRev Clear Engine Bay Cover has undergone several improvements to ensure your C8 HTC is well protected under the thermoplastic covers. These enhancements include a cover seal and special grommets to properly mount the clear cover in the engine bay without cracking on the mounting points. With the seal in place and the cover mounted snuggly on top of the engine, engine heat from the V8 will be properly directed out the rear hatch vents just like the OEM cover.

RapidRev performed a number of thermal tests on the Clear Engine Bay Covers and compared to the OEM heat shield, they found that the temperatures were nearly identical after 15-minutes of running the car at idle in the hot sun. Not only that, but with the hardtop down and folded inside the tonneau, those temps were nearly identical as well following 15 minutes of idling in the sun. You can see the results for yourself in a video on the company’s product page.

Installation of the Clear Engine Cover is a snap with the only tools required being a #15 TORX screwdriver and a 10MM socket/ratchet. RapidRev provides an installation video that shows removal of the OEM heat shield, moving the rubber fluid covers from the OEM heat shield to the Clear Engine Cover, and then adding the rubber seal around the edge of the see-thru cover before reinstalling the new Clear Engine Cover using the special grommets. All, told, this is probably a job that can be completed in 30-60 minutes, and the end result is a fantastic transformation of your hardtop convertible’s engine bay.

RapidRev offers a one-year warranty against any defects, and we appreciate how they took care of existing customers once they added the seal and hardware kit to the product.
