Corvettes for Sale: 1968 Corvette Barn Find Just Out of Storage

Chevy’s redesign of the Corvette in 1968 proved to be so popular that the third generation would wind up lasting until 1982, with various refreshes along the way.

Here’s an example of a first-year Stingray coupe (to differentiate from the two-word Sting Ray that ran from 1963 to 1967), currently available on eBay through Jan. 10.

A lot of folks are watching this auction (37 in the last 24 hours), but only two bids have been placed so far, climbing to $10,100 or about half of the “Buy It Now” price of $20,000.

The listing first says the car has been sitting for 20 years, but in an additional comment down below, the seller changes that to 2 years. It might be worth a visit to Gibsonburg, Ohio to find out for sure if you’re really serious.

Photos show a Safari Yellow Stingray (if that’s the original paint) in desperate need of repaint, but the body panels appear to be in decent enough shape some 55 years after leaving the St. Louis factory, with no obvious signs of damage.

Since the only available powerplants that year were either 327s or 427s of varying power, one thing we know for sure is NOT original is the current engine, described as a 350 that still “runs.” To what degree, however, we aren’t told in the ad.

We ARE told the car has an automatic transmission, along with power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning as well as the “original” hubcaps. How well those function all these years later is NOT told.

One thing for sure, this car could be a real beauty with its curvy lines and chrome bumpers, if properly restored. Are you up to the task?
