Timing is everything.

Location, location, location.

Either one of those two old sayings could be used to describe the situation in which the driver of this gray C7 Corvette Z06 coupe found himself on Monday afternoon in Las Vegas.

It’s not wise to drive more than double the speed limit anytime, but especially not when a speed enforcement detail is running an operation during rush hour right where you’re trying to see how fast your mom’s sports car will go.

28-year-old Hugo Mendoza-Ambriz

That’s the situation 28-year-old Hugo Mendoza-Ambriz encountered at 4:50 p.m. Monday as he was clocked doing nearly 110 mph in a 45 mph zone by North Las Vegas Police Department Officer Alexander Cuevas.

Officer Cuevas says he spotted “a cloud of dust” south of the intersection of East Deer Springs Way and Losee Road as the Corvette darted in and out of traffic around six other vehicles before heavy traffic finally brought him to a standstill, just in time for police to arrest the careless driver.

Check out the Twitter photo of the Corvette – which belongs to Mendoza-Ambriz’s mother – being impounded and loaded onto a rollback, accompanied by some advice from the police:

“Don’t do 106 in your Z06 and expect to keep your car and license! All jokes aside…this is extremely dangerous. This driver was lucky…he could have ended someone’s life, ended his life, or caused a serious crash. #SLOWDOWN!”

Actually, Mendoza-Ambriz was charged with driving on a suspended license, having no driver’s license, having no proof of insurance, and, just for good measure, six counts of reckless driving.

  1. Ya idiots like that need some jail time, but damn kudos to mom!! Hell ya, I hope she gets it back. It wasn’t her fault so she should get it back, wow I wonder if she’s single??

  2. Yeah, I’d like to have an ole’ lady like that, but shame on her for leaving the fob where junior could get his hands on it. He looks like a real piece of work, 28 and still living with his mother. Probably unemployed and you know he will always be a drain on society. Hope he sees some jail time for this stunt.

  3. Dam lucky he did not crash it. Nothing like a squirrel in a car that does not belong to him. No respect. He should see jail and lose his license for a long time. No excuse for those speeds in traffic. Hope mom keeps track of her keys and put some security on the car so the old enough to know better punk can’t get his hands on it again.

  4. He only drove recklessly, in this cop’s observation, once. Five additional tickets are for plea bargaining later to pretend the state did him a favor. Writing false tickets should be as illegal as filing a false police report. Idiots that race at rush hour suck. Idiots that race in populated areas suck. Cops that take an offense and blow it up suck. The kid went to jail and the Corvette was impounded. He does not need five additional false charges.

  5. “Mom…I’m tired of playing video games down here in the basement…I just want run to the store to pick up another six pack…I’ll be right back.”
