C4 Corvettes don’t always get the respect they deserve these days, due to their low horsepower production, especially compared to later generations.
But this very low-mileage Lingenfelter-modified red-on-red 1985 Corvette currently available on Bring a Trailer takes direct aim at that reputation.
With five days left in the auction, the highest offer is $15,000.
Lingenfelter Performance Engineering modded the L98 V8 to displace 420 cubic inches, and it now includes an Accel 1,000-CFM fuel-injection system, auxiliary oil cooler, Delco electronic ignition, MSD ignition wires, tubular exhaust headers, and Lingenfelter-branded valve covers.
The car also has the Z51 Performance Handling Package with gas-charged Delco/Bilstein shocks, higher-rated mono-leaf fiberglass springs, stabilizer bars, and quicker steering gear.
Other features include a power-adjustable driver’s seat, air conditioning, cruise control, Delco-Bose sound system with AM/FM/cassette stereo, onboard computer, and power windows, door locks, and mirrors. The air conditioning system has already been converted to R134a refrigerant.
According to the seller, the original owner bought the car new from Norwood Chevrolet in Warwick, Rhode Island and sent it to a builder who took the ’85 engine out and put a brand new ’86 Corvette “Bowtie” engine in the car. In those days, these were very hard to come by as the blocks were made with a high nickel content in the casting made almost exclusively for racing. From there it went to Lingenfelter for him to work his magic. The transmission was built by ARTCAR for those that know his work. This owner kept the car for 27 years and Mr. Mecum personally came to his shop and bought it when it had 172 miles on the car. He thinks this is about three years ago, and of course I bought it here on BAT almost two years ago.
The two owners have combined to drive the car only 934 miles over the past 37 years, and its condition reflects it, especially in the red leather interior that looks like new in photos.
