[VIDEO] The C8 Corvette Z06 Finally Meets the 911 GT3 in This Three Way Drag Race

It’s the matchup the entire automotive world has been chomping at the bit to see! It’s Pacquiao, Mayweather on four wheels, except this time, both fighters are in their prime! Pay close attention, kids; this isn’t just going to be a battle for the ages; it is sure to be one of the last rumbles of its kind. We have two howling naturally aspirated animals going head-to-head with international bragging rights at stake, and it is brought to you by Jason Cammisa and his team of video and special effects gurus that are responsible for the YouTube drag racing series that renders all others completely irrelevant!

[Michael Buffer voice] In the black corner, we have the pride of the Stars and Stripes by way of the Bluegrass State and the Motor City of Detroit, a halo car for the free world, a 5.5L, 8,600 rpm, 670-HP middle finger to the “downsizing, turbocharging, and – shudder – electrifying” supercar establishment. The songbird of its generation and the greatest Corvette ever assembled… THE C8 Z06!

[Buffer] And wearing the Shark Blue trunks, we have the reigning champion of free-breathing sports cars. Hailing from Weissach, Germany, with four liters spread out between six cylinders and a redline of nine grand, punching out 502 horses to go with a feathery light 3,220 lb. fighting weight and an ultra-quick-shifting PDK transmission; iiiiiiiittttts the 992-gen Porsche 911 G…T…3!

[Back to your traditional in-head narrator voice] Oh yeah, there’s also a white droptop Audi of Ironman fame with the 10-cylinder heart of a raging Italian bull. Unfortunately, the Four Rings couldn’t get Jason and Hagerty the full-bore, 602-pony version or even a 275-pound-lighter coupe in time for shooting day. To fit in with this company, it also appears in RWD form, so it doesn’t benefit from the off-the-line benefits of “Quattro,” meaning that it isn’t going to be overly competitive. It does sound terrific, though, and we are also treated to some sound bites of its big brother, the Aventador SV, and now we desperately want to get all four together for a 36-cylinder symphony! (Side note: sorry for the abundance of exclamation marks; this stuff is just too exciting for plain old periods!)

Now, we try to make a point of not playing spoiler, but our favorite car so thoroughly kicks in the teeth of the much pricier Europeans. Jason follows up that ass-kicking with such impressive statistics that we have no choice but to let you know that the Z crosses the line five and a half car lengths ahead of the second-place Porsche, with the clock reading just 10.5 seconds. Mr. Stark’s ride gets bronze here, arriving at the checkered flag nearly a full second behind GM’s Gemini Project. The Z06 is so fast that it would have tied the $600,000+ V12 Lambo mentioned above, and it is within four-tenths of the almighty $1,000,000, 1,001 HP Bugatti Veyron!

At this point in the proceedings, we WILL keep our plot-point-ruining mouths shut because to give the Z06 more of a run for its money after it shellacked Germany’s finest, Jason brings out… a Ducati and its MotoAmerica Super Sport Championship rider. The $40,000 bike in question is a Panigale V4 SP2. As its name suggests, it is powered by a 1.1-liter V4 engine (that can hit 15,500 rpm!). It propels just 429 pounds down the tarmac with 210 HP, giving it a power-to-weight ratio of barely over 2-pounds per horsepower (2.75 with a rider) vs. the 5.477 lbs. that each of the Z’s horsies have to haul around. With a lot more rubber on the road, and Randy Pobst at the helm, does the Z even stand a chance? Hit play to find out, and be prepared for some fast-paced one-wheel awesomeness!

Now, what we really want to see is GT3 vs. Z06 round II: Road Course Killers!

  1. Damn, that car is impressive as hell. To bad GM can’t seem to get it’s shit together.

  2. I watched this video earlier tonight on Road & Track’s daily newsletter. The Z06 is super impressive but I’ve got to admit that I was even more impressed with that Ducati rider with balls of steel who was able to outrun and blow the doors off the Z06. That is one badass bike!
