Now, we could have started this blog post with a quote from a certain song by Prince, but that’s a little too cliché. Rather, now that we’ve gotten said song stuck in your head, we’ll just move along to the business at hand. Speaking of hands, you’ll need three of them to count all the Corvettes in this unique collection heading to Mecum Kansas City next month.

Over the years, Mecum has assembled some pretty neat Corvette collections at their various events. In In the past we’ve seen black Corvettes, pace cars, tankers, and more. Interestingly, we’ve never seen a collection quite like this one consisting of 15 red C4 Corvettes. Officially called the “Red C4 / ZR1 Low-Mile Corvette Collection” by Mecum, the lots are a rouge-colored tour through Corvette’s 4th generation.

The C4 generation ran from 1984 through 1996. It’s where we started to witness Corvette’s evolution from an aging cruiser into a technological marvel. It’s the generation that first gave us items like anti-lock brakes, airbags, traction control, adjustable suspension, and the vaunted ZR1.

The red collection dates to 2012 when the owner purchased a 1985 model reminiscent of the ’85 he’d owned previously. As many of us can relate, this is where the owner’s OCD (Obsessive Corvette Disorder) kicked in. He wanted a collection. They all had to be red coupes with low mileage. Let the search begin!

When 2012 ended, there were seven cars already in the collection. In 2013, six more cars found their way to Topeka, Kansas, to be with their red friends. A 1990 ZR1 topped off the collection in July 2014. At this point, there was one Corvette from each year of the C4 era, including a complete set of mighty ZR1’s.

This weekend, all 15 cars will be selling individually at no reserve at Mecum Kansas City. On the low end, there’s a 1993 ZR1 with a mere 9,825 miles shown. The highest mileage car is a 1987 with just over 27,000 miles on the clock. The 1994 ZR1 owns an NCRS Top Flight award. The cars are a mix of manual and automatic transmissions, and we also see a selection of interior colors, including red, black, beige, and gray.

As you can see, this collection is a great summary of the C4 era in one of Corvette’s most popular colors.

For the most part C4 Corvettes have been overlooked by the collector car market, but that seems to have changed over the last few as we continue to see their values rise. People are finally realizing the value that lies in these cars. How much will these cars bring? Tune in Saturday, December 3rd to find out.

Mecum’s Kansas City Auction takes place December 1st – 3rd at the Kansas City Convention Center. The TV schedule hasn’t been released yet but should be out soon.
