In the eyes of some enthusiasts, there’s nothing that says Corvette more than a Torch Red over Adrnaline Red C7 Z06.
This one currently on the market in the Rutherfordton, N.C., area is even more special, though – as in VIN 001 for the 2017 model year.
It seems that car enthusiast/philanthropist Rick Hendrick usually has a claim on the first significant model of any generation Corvette, but another North Carolina man managed to slip this one past him – probably because 2017 represented the third year for the 650-horsepower supercharged seventh-generation Z06.
Still, if you’re a collector who’s into significant numbers, this convertible being offered for sale on Craigslist might be right up your alley. The original owner – who says this is his 13th Corvette and “by far the best” one – is selling the car for $145,000 or best offer.
“This may be your only chance to own a VIN #1 CORVETTE,” he says in the listing, and he’s probably right. After all, how many such numerically significant cars have you run across during your lifetime?
That asking price may seem high to some, but consider that Hendrick bought the first Z06 convertible at auction in 2015 for $800,000. Earlier, he had also purchased the first 2014 Stingray convertible for $1 million, though all the proceeds from both sales went to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.
Surprisingly, this historically significant 2017 Z06 has been driven 5,000 miles – which is unusual for a historically significant Corvette, most of which are kept in a bubble and never even see a pebble on a road. Nevertheless, the owner says this gently used Corvette remains in “pristine” condition and has always been garaged, with most of the mileage said to have come from participating in car shows, Corvette Expo, and Rod Run in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
The seller includes a detailed history of his car, from the very beginning on June 20, 2016 when Chevy approved his order for Vin #1. Production Control accepted the car the next day, and #1 was built on Sept. 24, 2016 and delivered to Carter Chevrolet in Shelby, N.C., on Oct. 5, 2016. He picked it up the next day.
The car features the 2LZ Equipment Group that includes Memory Seats, Seat Adjusters, Power Heated Outside Mirrors w/Auto Dimming, Rearview Mirror w/Auto Dimming, Curb View Cameras (Front), Universal Home Remote, Premium Audio w/Surround, Advanced Theft Deterrent System, Heads-Up Display, and XM Radio.
Other options include Z06 Chrome Aluminum Wheels, Performance Data & Video Recorder, Navigation, 8-speed Paddle Shift Automatic Transmission, Remote Vehicle Start, Custom Red Calipers, Carbon Flash Hood Stripe, Z06 Underhood Liner, Indoor Vehicle Car Cover, WeatherTech floor mats and trunk liner, and a five-year ceramic coating applied May 20, 2020.
