[VIDEO] Emeila Hartford Sets Two New Speed Records While Testing the 2023 Corvette Z06


Soon after Chevrolet revealed the 2023 Corvette Z06, we learned that its official quarter-mile time was 10.6 seconds and it would have a 0-60 MPH time 2.6 seconds. The one other performance number that hasn’t been published is the Z06’s quarter-mile trap speed. Just how fast is the car in the quarter mile anyways?

You can guess who is going to find out!

Emelia Hartford knows a lot about quarter-mile times and the C8 Corvette Stingray. Her car Phoenix held the quarter mile record for much of 2021 as she and others attempted to break in the 8s. She probably has done more quarter-mile runs in her C8 than 98% of those who own one, and we’re excited to see what she can do with the Z06.

Her presser for this is a Rapid Blue C8 Z06 Coupe with the Z07 Performance Package and the lightweight visible carbon fiber wheels. She says that there is a noticeable difference between the base Z06 and those with the Z07 package:

“Now that the Embargo is lifted, I can absolutely say that I do notice a difference between the Z06 and the z07. We had a convertible Z06 last week we swapped for the Coupe for today because it’s a little lighter weight and we also have the carbon fiber wheels, which is something we did not have last week because that should help with unsprung weight and getting us off that line and hopefully giving us a fast 60 foot [time].

Emelia’s first run came in at 10.968 at 129.51 MPH, and she beings experimenting with the traction control system. With it off, her next run comes in at 10.75 at 128.82 MPH. Still not content, Emelia says she called Chevrolet, and they recommended she try the new launch control mode called “Rapid Exit” which we learned about back in May. She tries that on the unprepped lane but the timing on the board doesn’t seem to work.

After some additional testing and runs consistently around 10.75, they decided to pull the car into the shade, open the hatch, and let the engine cool. During that time, Emelia also works on customizing the launch control settings which is now available on the car. Once the Z06 has cooled, it’s back to the strip and on the next run, she beats the official time with a run of 10.51 at 130.11 MPH. While reviewing the Performance Data Record, the timing shows a 10.45 and a 2.2 0-60 MPH. That 0-60 time would be the second official mark broken for the day. Emelia shared one more quarter-mile run with that result at 10.52 seconds.
