When it comes to Chevy’s new mid-engine sports car and all the variants planned thus far, it’s no surprise that GM has looked to Maranello, Italy, for inspiration. We’ve previously heard how the Z06’s LT6 engine was directly influenced by the Ferrari 458 and Chevrolet has also had the 458 on the road with engineers as they benchmarked the Ferrari’s sound and fury against the new American sports car.

Now that the Z06 is almost here, Corvette engineers are now focusing their efforts on integrating hybrid performance with the upcoming E-Ray and Zora models, and once again, a Ferrari will play an important role in inspiration and benchmarking future Corvette hybrid sports cars.

Spy photographers have captured a Ferrari SF90 Stadale testing on the famed North/South Straightaway at its Milford, MI Proving Grounds. According to our spies, the SF90 is Ferrari’s take on marrying a high-performance 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 good for 769 horsepower, and then three electric motors add an additional 217 horses for 986 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. That’s good enough to launch the SF90 0-60 mph in the low two-second range.

While that kind of power is more than expected for the E-Ray, which we think will top out at around 600 hp, the fact that GM brought another of Italy’s finest to Milford seems to confirm GM is already at work with the rumored Corvette Zora. While rumored to arrive later this decade, the Zora is expected to contain a number of the same tricks as the SF90 Stradale as Chevy engineers continue their march towards eventual full electrification of the Corvette line-up.

  1. Like Denyce said. At least it looks like a sports car. GM smooth out the lines and not so many harsh angles. Stop trying to be a edgy Lambo. The classic looks of the original NSX and Porches are timeless. My wife is a designer, and the Z06 has extra lines to show the width of Z, come on. Round the lines, clean it up and save the crazy whack lines for the ZR1 or Zora.
What do I know, Im a driver not an artist.

  2. Does Enzo know that Mary Barra snuck into his garage and borrowed his SF90 ??? She better bring it back with a fuel tank !!!!
