Trying to carjack this Rapid Blue C8 Corvette coupe literally turned into a life-and-death matter for the robber when the car’s owner responded with gunfire early Wednesday morning.

Police say they answered a call about 3:56 a.m. about a fatal shooting in the parking lot of the Legends Poker Room in the 9200 block of Richmond Avenue in west Houston, Texas.

Witnesses told police they heard the suspect approach the Corvette owner in front of the Café Awtar, a late-night Mediterranean restaurant, and demand of him, “Give me your car.” Police say he may also have been trying to take the Corvette owner’s possessions as well.

But the driver didn’t go along with that plan, instead retrieving a gun from his Corvette and opening fire on the would-be robber, who then jumped onto a car not connected to either man. When that car stopped in the parking lot of the Legends Poker Room, the man fell off and died from gunshot wounds, police said.

“A couple of witnesses did see the vast majority of what occurred,” Houston Police Department Detective Jason Campbell told ABC13 News.

The Corvette driver “felt his life was in danger,” Campbell said, “and was able to return fire and shoot the decedent two or three times.”

Police have not released names of the men involved in the incident, but say the Corvette driver is cooperating in the investigation.

“That shooter is cooperating with our investigation and he has since been transported down to (HPD headquarters) where he is being interviewed by detectives. That suspect is dead on scene via gunshot wounds,” Campbell said.

  4. At aprox 0400 in Houston Texas, I’d say the odds of the owner of a C8, or anyone for that matter having a firearm is pretty damn high. Probably more high than the perpetrator must have been….

  22. This is a sad story, I do not care how you look at it. Senseless loss of life, and a shame that the C8 owner had to experience this crime. And yes; I am a C8 owner.
