How many times have we heard from a Corvette enthusiast that their love of Corvettes began the first time they saw the 1963 Corvette Split-Window Coupe? I could name several friends as well as a couple of people who work on the Corvette team who say it was the ’63 Corvette that started them down the Corvette path, and they’ve been hooked on America’s Favorite Sports Car ever since.

Our friends at Mecum Auctions are coming off their biggest sale ever at Kissimmee which saw 400 Corvettes run through the block that resulted in a near 90% sell-thru rate and brought in over $24 million in sales. Next up on the auction schedule for Mecum is a return to Glendale, Arizona in mid-March with the schedule featuring the sale of the Hooked on Vettes Corvette collection.

The Hooked on Vettes Collection was assembled over the last few decades by our friend Michael Brown, the filmmaker behind The Quest Documentary which detailed the search, restoration, and return of the 1960 Cunningham Corvette that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Over the years, we featured a bunch of Michael’s videos that included everything from looking at other Corvette Collections to producing fun Corvette-related videos for the Super Bowl.

The genesis of the Hooked on Vettes Collection began just a few months after a younger Michael Brown first got his driver’s license and that’s when he saw a new 1963 Corvette Split-Window for the first time. Michael says he was instantly smitten with the new Corvette, but he never really thought he would ever own one at the time. Fast forward to the mid-1980s and that’s when Michael’s dreams of Corvettes began to take shape. Not only has he filled his garage with a great collection of classic and newer Corvettes, he also assembled a top-shelf collection of 200 neon signs and other Road Art which he used to enhance the presentation of his Corvettes.
