[ACCIDENT] C8 Corvette Split in Half After High Speed Crash in New Jersey

There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work in the development of any car, often tedious efforts that ultimately aim to make the vehicle safer for its occupants.

This work doesn’t receive the big headlines like more glamorous 0-to-60 times under 3 seconds, but we’re sure the people inside this C8 Corvette that was involved in a horrific accident over the weekend in Sewell, New Jersey are extremely grateful for those mundane safety efforts of Tadge Juechter and his team of engineers!

Mantua Township Fire Department reports on its Facebook page that Rescue 2218 responded overnight last Friday to a crash on Route 55 near Mile Marker 57 that resulted in splitting this lime green-wrapped Corvette apart. Graphic photos from the scene show the front part of the Stingray upside down, with the engine and transmission resting several feet away. We’re not sure what happened to the rear end of the car because it’s not visible in the photos.

Likewise, there’s no word on what caused the accident, but we would assume excessive speed played a role.

No matter the cause, firefighters had to work quickly upon arriving at the scene, extricating the two occupants trapped inside the front half of the car while also extinguishing the engine that was on fire nearby.

The miracle is that afterwards, both passengers were transported to local hospitals with NON LIFE THREATENING injuries. All we can say is WOW!

The same can’t be said for this fluorescent Corvette that ultimately gave its life to save the humans inside. We’re not an engineer but we would love to hear from a member of the Corvette team that designed the car to get a layman’s explanation of the design principles that led to this miracle.

Great job, Chevrolet!

  1. Glad to hear that the occupants made it out in one piece, so kudos to the engineering team, but this is so disappointing to read, given that most of us have been waiting for months on end for our rides. But again, glad they made it out.

  2. The C8 continues to validate the definition of masterpiece. Unfortunately we have seen
too many examples of how these cars are being disrespected by careless and probably rookie drivers.
    Bottom line: What a car!

  3. Without knowing any details, the cause might have been anything, such as another vehicle, icy roads, who knows. I’ve watched a lot of dash am videos and sometimes it’s just amazing what does, or doesn’t happen in a crash.
    Glad these people are alright.

  4. The pictures reminds me of the Ferrari Enzo that was split in half a number of years ago. The driver was able to walk away from that accident too.

  5. Too bad about the accident, but glad the occupants are still alive. On a side note, that would be an awesome color to add to the inventory. I’m sure many others (except maybe GM) would agree.

  6. A bad accident in 1964 with a 64 corvette coupe going over 120 mph hit a tree and broke into 2 pieces. The passenger died. They were my high school friends. The driver survived with no apparent injuries.
