Consumer Reports giveth, and Consumer Reports taketh away.

Back in November, CR named the C8 Corvette Stingray to its list of the 10 Least Reliable Cars for 2022.

But with the arrival of a new year, the organization has named the Stingray as a top performer in its road tests.

Go figure.

In the latest evaluation, Consumer Reports praised the mid-engine Corvette’s acceleration, handling, braking, and transmission performance, along with its fit and finish. They also gave the Corvette a perfect 5 out of 5 for predicted consumer satisfaction.

On the negative side, the organization criticized the C8 for tricky cabin access and poor rear and side visibility. Two categories – trunk/cargo space and predicted reliability – both received the lowest possible score with a 1 out of 5.

Despite the criticism, the Corvette still managed to receive a score of 97 points out of 100 on the road test, good for third place behind a pair of BMWs – an X5 with a 98 and a 7 Series with a 99.

Consumer Reports says it ranks road tests on 50+ individual evaluations and uses that score to come up with an Overall Score for each vehicle.

In the earlier Least Reliable survey, Consumer Reports handed the Stingray a reliability score of 13 out of 100, with the lower the number, the less reliable the vehicle. The organization faulted the Stingray for several potential problem areas, including its 6.2-liter engine, Tremec dual-clutch eight-speed transmission, drive system, paint, and trim.
