When Rick Hendrick purchased the very first C8 Corvette for $3 million in January 2020, he famously quipped that he’ll never drive it.

Now his dealership in Atlanta, the Number 8 Corvette dealership in the country, is ensuring that some of their customers will never drive the new 2023 Corvette Z06 when it goes on sale in the summer of 2022.

Check out this email from the Rick Hendrick Chevrolet Duluth dealership to a customer on the Corvette Forum who was assured in writing in October 2020 that his only dealer markup fee on the 2023 Corvette Z06 would be a “$749 dealer administration charge.”

Instead, just 13 months later, he is being offered the mandatory option to take an “accessory package” that costs $13,000.

Are we going to watch a great Corvette enthusiast and friend to the Corvette team spend millions of dollars to own the very first 2023 Corvette Z06 at Barrett-Jackson in January, knowing that his dealership in Atlanta is gouging customers who were promised MSRP pricing over a year ago?

It really leaves a bad impression in our opinion…

Is City Chevrolet marking up Z06s? How about any of the other Hendrick Chevy dealerships?

Here is the email from the CorvetteForum.com:

Our dealership will be requiring an accessory package with each of our Corvette orders, will include items such as paint protection film, ceramic coating, window tint and a few other items

Total cost for it will likely be ~$13,000

Best,
Justin Cochran

Demand for the new Corvette Z06 is such that shitty dealership practices like this will go unpunished because these cars will be going for $20K over the purchase price on the secondary market anyway. But you can at least hit the dealer in the end with a 1-star rating on their dealership surveys that follow the sale, especially if they promised you MSRP IN WRITING.

We might expect these games from a Joe Schmoe dealership, but a Hendrick dealership pulling this crap? Seriously, screw these dealers…

UPDATE
Check out this great response from the Hendrick customer who is now saying the dealership’s management has reached out to him and will be making everything right:

WOW, Keith and dear fellow members, thank you for all of your posts and actions!
I’ve just got off the phone with the General Manager from Rick Hendrick in Duluth, GA where I made my deposit in 2020, and I was informed that there was a little mistake and miscommunication from their end.
Because I made my deposit so long in advance, I was grandfathered in for no extra charges, so no, the $13K will not apply to my allocation.
Not sure if that $13K package fee will apply to anybody else that made a deposit recently, or if it is something that is going to be implemented and communicated to all new deposits from a certain date, but I wanted to share right away what I’ve just learned.
Thank you again awesome Corvette Forum Community and best wishes to all!
Happy Holidays!

  1. Did you actually expect that a Hendrick dealership would not maximize the profit from a hot new model? Ethics aside, and they are almost always aside, Rick hasn’t gone from pretty poor to very rich by allowing maximum profits escape him. At the end of the day he is what he is. There are dealers willing to stop at MSRP, find them.

  2. This is only the very beginning of what we can expect to see from a lot of the not Top Tier dealerships. Stick with Mike Furman and Criswell as he is # 1 and sticks to his word and deliverers the best experience and at MSRP!

  3. Yes Rick avoided prison with an ankle bracelet remember? Bribing Honda reps to get better allocations with Neal Bonnet. Claim was he had leukemia and might die. Look it’s a miracle he’s well!!!!

  4. Wow MR. “H” really?? Boy this has changed my admiration for Hendricks Motorsports. What a dick. They make money at MSRP people, anything extra is just gravy. Greedy bastards.

  5. I just got the $3000. above MSRP txt message on an LT1 I was interested in from a dealer “due to the inventory shortage”. I have five chevy dealerships within fifteen miles of my home and I wouldn’t buy a car from any of them. Its not just sales either, their service departments are also crooks, recommending unnecessary work.

  6. From a different Hendrick dealership in the Midwest, I originally was getting a 2020 that I put a deposit down on 12/17/2019. Throughout all the delays, it will now be a 2022. However, for the 2022 they are doing something similar to me as well; REQUIRING I get PPF, etc.. Pathetic!!

  7. One night last year I was building a C8 on the GM website and the next morning I received a text, an email and a call from Hendrick’s in Naples, whom I never contacted, stating they had a new C8 available that the customer turned down. So I figured I would go check it out…..$35K over MSRP!!….with some added carbon fiber.
Needless to say I walked out. Ordered at Ciocca for MSRP.

  8. This is so sad, you will have to wait years for a Z06 and then to get the cattle prod rammed up your Butt that takes it to another level. I would cancel my reservation and walk away!

  9. Stonebriar Chevrolet in Frisco, TX only has 6 people on their Z06 list… Because they’re asking $50K over MSRP (whatever that will be) and $5K down, just to be on the list.

  10. The solution is simple: have a little patience, and just say NO THANKS when they throw the “market” price at you.Enough folks take this approach, allowing these opportunist to stack up inventory AND their floor plans, would help bring the price more in line with the value.Remember, this is still a consumable, metal, carbon fiber, and fiberglass.Depreciation will still exist.I bought a new 2010 GS when the gs first came back, and a 2014 c-7 museum delivery.Didn’t pay msrp for either car.( yes I paid less).
The c-8 appears to be a great car, love to have one,and will own one eventually.BUT,can’t help but remember”A FOOL AND HIS MONEY……….”

  11. someone said HENDRICKS has a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against him because he was screwing sales staff out of commissions.

    typical dealer.

  12. local “fraud”” dealer is asking $20,000.00 over for a MUSTANG GT500.

what really stinks is phony 700 dollar DOC FEE.

  13. Would seem like those customers who have signed MSRP signed deals in writing, would also have attorneys to help them “focus”. I’m enjoying my C7 more and more.

  14. Don’t buy if you can’t afford it. “Boys do what they can Men do what they want.” Never forget that. We can’t tell a business how to business if you want to buy their product. Quick question… what do you do for work everyday? If the answer is Not “I MAKE MONEY” then buy a Malibu! Leave the C8’s for the real movers and shakers.

  15. I was in the car business many years ago. A grizzled old salesman told me that to be successful “you need to have larceny in your heart.”

  16. Keller Chevrolet, a Joe Schmoe dealership here in Buffalo, NY, stole $10,000 from me recently by tacking on a “Current Market Adjustment” to my invoice at the very last moment of my 2022 C8 purchase. I gave them a 1 rating on GM’s post sale dealer satisfaction survey but what does that really do? GM obviously doesn’t care and condones this kind of behavior from their dealers as I never heard a word back them.

  17. It’s a crying shame but that’s Humanity for you!!! You just have to remember the #1 rule: “We are the smart ones on the planet” ????????????????????????

I totally agree with you Keith!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Pretty sad. I bought my C7 from Hendricks in Duluth, GA and had a great experience. It was such a great experience that I went back there, bypassing a number of Chevrolet dealerships along the way, to purchase my wife’s 2021 Traverse and again, great experience. I’m certainly with everyone who thinks this mandatory fee after being told something else is anything but above board. It will give me pause to go there again.

  19. The author is a bitter idiot. These will go for 50kover their msrp on the market used! This car isn’t for shitty customers who want you to give up all profit to earn their business lol screw them! ?

  20. Until the consumer sticks together and tells dealers they will not buy a C8 above MSRP they will keep stealing your money.

  21. The secondary market is going to bring $50k over. Paying $13k for value add accessories is probably going to be one of the better deals you will find. I cant help but notice there is not email attached saying that they will sell for sticker, just that they have an admin fee… seems like some assumptions were made.

  22. “Someone” has to pay for his $3 million Z06, it might as well be you! I always tell people who buy their vehicles from a dealer or take their cars back there for service that “someone” has to pay for them fancy windows and polished floor. That someone is YOU!

  23. Note from Rick Hendrick:

How do you think a man like me got to be a man like me? Next question.

  24. “Mandantory option” if it’s mandatory then it’s not an option. Sounds like some salesman talking out of his ass. They can’t make you pay extra for a presold order at MSRP. They cant touch your car with that stuff unless you agree to purchase it extra…for $13k ? Anything like that going on it you never agreed should be considered vandalism. GTFOH with that.

  25. Hendricks in Duluth did the same to Me! This was even after I bought two Corvettes from them in the past two years! I won’t be buying from them again. So much for loyalty!

  26. Go to McMulkin in New Hampshire. No BS. They will tell you where you are on the list and give you an MSRP deal. I know: I went out of state and got a ‘21 from them.

  27. As crazy as it sounds, $13K over MSRP may be a bargain. The first few owners of the 2023 Z06 (if they’re flippers) should easily be able to get double the MSRP price paid!

  28. Tried to buy mine from Hendrick in Cary and could not get them to call me to discuss and set up an appointment. They insisted to do business via texting. When you spend this kind of money sales have to be more personal. So I contacted one of the other local dealers and they called to setup an appointment. Went there the next day and bought my Corvette from them. I guess most idiot Americans are satisfied buying on line in the middle of the night while eating popcorn from carvanna or vroom.

  29. Capitalism has turned to American Greed. Watch what happens the next time the market turns down and all those dealers are crying the blues. It time for people to walk away from these crooks!

  30. I know a guy that just paid 49K for a new Ranger 4X4 yesterday! It was an FX4 so not the top of the line Tremor. They told him no deals. In today’s climate wait at least another year or get hosed right now.

  31. Its American made… I paid 10k over for my c7 z51 in 2014 never again… im just waiting savings my $$ in a couple of years these cars are over stock in dealership and are sold below msrp… just wait…

  32. Its easy to wait if you have a perfectly maintained Vette like I do, looks and runs like brand new. For those of you who don’t have a Vette its tough, because prices on used Corvettes are in a bubble too! Lesson: Don’t ever sell your Vette unless you already have a new one

  33. I’m number 5 on the Z06 list at my dealership. My salesman (I switched to this dealership in 2019 and have bought a Tahoe, Blazer, and a 3LT C8 for MSRP) told me i would pay over MSRP for the Z06 because the owner of the dealership is requiring it. I responded “as long as you pay over sticker for my 2020 C8” and he agreed. We shall see since nothing is “official” yet.

We need Chevy to step up for anyone who has bought 20 or more new Chevrolets and agree to not be a flipper. Hopefully one day the franchise requirement will be eliminated and I can buy direct.
