The 2020 Corvette Owner’s Manual includes a section titled “Track Events and Competitive Driving (Z51 Only)” that provides specific information about preparing your car for track and competitive driving events. While the information in the Owner’s Manual is straight forward, I picked up some additional advice during the C8 Corvette Track Prep session at Spring Mountain Motor Resort’s 8th Generation Corvette Owner’s School.

While Spring Mountain’s Ron Fellows Performance Driving School on-track sessions get my adrenaline pumping and put a smile on my face, the in-class session provides the knowledge necessary to maximize the on-track experience. Two of the “in-class” sessions that are included in the Corvette Owner’s School are conducted around a Corvette and provide a wealth of tips and practical advice.

During the Track Prep session, our lead instructor, Justin “JJ” Johnson, shared a great deal of helpful information. Since class members are encouraged to ask questions during the session, I’ve edited the video down to include a good sampling of the most helpful information that was presented. I highly recommend taking the 8th Generation Corvette Owner’s School to get the full benefit of their in-class and on-track training.

Topics covered in the video include:

  • Checking Oil Level
  • Track Tire Pressure
  • Parking Brake
  • Front Trunk Manual Entry
  • Battery Access
  • Jacking the Car
  • Waking a Sleeping Key FOB
  • FOB Battery Replacement
  • Reprogramming Your Key FOB
  • Brake Fluid for Track Use
  • Importance of Brake Burnishing
  • Track Alignment
  • Oil for High Temp Track Days
