I’ll tell you this about Hennessey Performance…they sure know who to keep us entertained!

Back in late 2013, a modified C7 Corvette Stingray was driven to 200 mph on a Texas Toll Road with permission from Texas authorities who used the car to test their radar and camera capabilities on the road. Hennessey hit a top speed of 200.6 mph becoming the first to break the 200 mph barrier in the C7 Corvette.

And now the Texas tuning shop has done it again with the C8 Corvette Stingray!

Ten days ago a Hennessey-prepped 2020 Corvette Z51 Coupe made a top speed run at the Continental Tires Proving Grounds in Texas. The modified C8 Corvette was driven by Corvette Hall of Famer John Heinricy (aka the Heinrocket) and the car hit a top speed of 205.1 mph as verified on a Vbox GPS system.

It wasn’t exactly the smoothest ride for the vehicle’s occupants as you can see the passenger desperately trying to film the run with a handheld DSLR camera. I would point to the track’s surface as more of the culprit in that regard, but overall the run was exciting to watch.

Like the C7 Corvette back in 2013, the 2020 Corvette makes 650 hp after being upgraded with a Nitrous Express system as well as new Hennessey stainless steel exhaust. Hennessey also removed the rear wing from the Z51 Coupe which on a stock C8 Corvette has a top speed of 184 mph vs 194 mph without the wing.

From Hennessey Performance via YouTube:

On May 8, 2020, John Heinricy test drove a Hennessey-prepared 2020 C8 Corvette Stingray Z51 (rear spoiler removed) with 650 HP (Hennessey stainless steel exhaust upgrades & 135 HP Nitrous Express system – not twin-turbo) to a top speed of 205.1 mph (confirmed by VBox GPS) at the Continental Tires Proving Grounds in Uvalde, Texas. This is the first C8 Corvette to break the 200 mph mark. For more information please contact us: 979-885-1300 | http://www.HennesseyPerformance.com

  1. Lots of tar strips on the road you made that 205 mph run! At speed approaching that it is alway surprising how a road that looks flat isn’t. The suspension gets a real workout from the vertical motion.
