[PICS] Options for the C8 Corvette Convertible's 'Nacells' Show Up 2020 Corvette Visualizer Code

Interest is building in the C8 Corvette Convertibles as more C8 Corvette prototypes like this half-wrapped C8 Corvette Convertible prototype in Arctic White was recently spotted in Milford, MI.

Those portions of the body behind the seats have been referred to by us and others as buttresses but it looks like Chevrolet will be officially referring to them as ‘Nacells’ on the hardtop convertible versions for the 2020 Corvette Stingray.

This comes from a junior member on the Corvette Forum with just 3 posts to his name. jayC8 says the name comes from the source code of the visualizer:

In the code, Chevrolet is showing three different options for the Convertible roof:

  • CONVERTIBLE TOP – RETRACTABLE PAINTED
  • CONVERTIBLE TOP – CARBON FLASH PAINTED NACELLS AND ROOF
  • CONVERTIBLE TOP – CARBON FLASH PAINTED NACELLS AND BODY COLOR

We did a view-source on the visualizer website and confirmed they were there as well. A number of different images were specified with those options, we only found this one image that shows the painted top. It will be really interesting to see the different ways that customers can customize the look of the convertibles.

Chevrolet released a teaser video following the Stingray Coupe’s reveal that showed a bit of the 2020 Corvette Hardtop Convertible:

Oh, if the word “nacells” sounds familar, those are the structures that house the engines on the Star Trek’s Enterprise. Warp Speed, Mr. Sulu!

  1. Maybe those chaps at Chevrolet need a quick indoc on aircraft nomenclature & spelling. The correct spelling is Nacelle / Nacelles.

But either way, neat! Keeping with what seems to be this ongoing aircraft theme on the C8!!
