[VIDEO] Sounds Like a Track Package is Coming for the 2020 Corvette Stingray

If you are planning on tracking your 2020 Corvette Stingray, we have some interesting comments coming from one of the Corvette Team members regarding the possibility of a Track Package for the C8 Corvette.

The video comes from a YouTuber named Brink of Speed who was at the Friday “Echo” Reveal in Tustin on 07.19.19, and in this video, he spoke with Brett Golliff who is the Performance Color and Trim Manager.

As you are probably aware, there are going to be three seat choices for the 2020 Corvette with the highest level being the Competition Seat.

What’s interesting about that Competition Seat is that it features a “performance textile” on the bolsters which grips and holds the driver in place. The new material also helps to save a few ounces of weight over the leather, and we also bet that it holds up better than the Napa leather on the bolsters where you would see any kind of seat wear first.

Here’s a great photo of all three seats with the Competition Seat on the right:

Now that we’ve set up that, we go back to the Brink of Speed video with Brett Golliff. Brett talks about the different seats and especially the GT2 Seat which is really the new seat in the line-up, or so we thought.

The Competition Seat on display at the Reveal is actually different than the one pictured above. Brett describes it both as “his baby” and a “unicorn” as the seat was completely covered with the performance textile, not just the bolsters. He says the following:

So there are a few things we want to conquer was to make sure we didn’t have any wear issues for our customer and then we also wanted to reduce weight. So this version is for our track car, so there is a special track version of the vehicle that you can get that comes essentially as more of a black-out package that then comes in with this entire competition seat with the performance textile fabric. And it’s awesome. It lowers the weight, it grips you and holds you in. This is a super exciting piece. No matter what when you get a competition seat, it comes with the upper bolster and outer bolster with it, but this one comes with the full path that’s available on that track version. And you can option it, so you don’t have to get the track package to only get this. You can get option it in a few of the other areas as well.”

Fast-forward to the 7:30 mark for the comments on the track package:

So according to Brett’s description, the 2020 Corvette will feature a track package that includes a “blackout” interior with the Competition Seats fully covered in the performance textile to help reduce weight and keep the driver firmly planted in the seat.

That the 2020 Corvette Stingray with the Z51 Performance Package can be optioned with a “Track Package” option is great news for those that don’t want to wait on higher performance version down the road. It also sounds like Chevrolet is trying to offer the vehicle just how you want it, and if that includes tracking your Corvette, they’ve got a package just for you!

  1. What’s the news regarding the “ERay”? Isn’t that the performance direction for the C8 and the main reason for the mid-engine design? Considering EV is the future of the auto industry as a whole. The mid-engine design provides the perfect placement for batteries and electronics.
