[PICS] New Renders Take a Closer Look at the C8 Corvette Hardtop Convertible

At the beginning of the week, we shared an excellent new render from Chazcron and the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com showing a Black C8 Coupe with the Targa top removed. It was a fresh look at one of the long-standing options available for Corvette owners yet its one of the first renders we’ve seen of the topless coupe.

At the time, Chazcron said he hadn’t really explored the buttresses of the C8 Hardtop Convertible, but he must have taken a crash course as he has now released this new render featuring the double-hump rear engine cover along with a window into the engine compartment.

To refresh your memories as for the basis of this render, we look to the C8 sightings at the Nurburgring last September which showed the coupe version with the vented window and the hardtop convertible model with a black cover bolted down over the rear engine cover, but a set of vents was visible on the rear deck of the car (special thanks to bikerjulio for these screen caps):

When asked about the curvature of those engine cover vents, Chazcron replied:

We’ve mostly seen the louvers low from the back, and it looks pretty straight, maybe a little curved at the edges. But from the side, there is definitely a curve to them. Here is a back shot showing they are mostly straight:

Here are the two renders provided from Chazcron showing some of the details of what might be hidden under the C8’s black cover:

Many of those first renders were particularly light on details with the rear, but guys like Chazcron, FVS and others continue to find these small details that help to better complete their models. From that work and attention to the smallest details, we are seeing a lot more of the “potential” design of the car coming out, so to speak.

  1. In the close up of the rear wing it likes like a Bird Of Pry from Star Trek…. well at least a bird of some kind.

  2. We knew what the new F-22 Raptor Fighter Jet was going to look like years before it was officially shown to the public yet with the new Corvette are they afraid someone will copy it before it’s official release

  3. Most Incredible corvette I have seen in years, They are teasing us to the max with there debut. .2020 is still a bit away. Hope I can handel the suspense for the real thing. The c-8 will definitely start to raise eye brows on those high price international market cars.

  4. Judging from renderings of Ford’s Shelby GT 500 engine it seems that Ford wants to show off its engine design while GM is ashamed and must hide things under plastic and CF covers. Ferrari and Lamborghini are two others proud of their designs that come to mind.

  5. Look at the Factory 5 GTM and compare the shape. I still think GM is running Factory 5 test mules and nobody has an actual picture of the C8.
