Whenever I see a YouTube video with “Corvette” and “Mexico” as the title, I am assuming it’s some Corvette owner in Michigan who is trying to trick law enforcement (despite noticeable landmarks) when posting an incriminating video of himself driving a few miles above the speed limit. I am sure that works every time.

But that’s not the case here. The video does come from Mexico as a Spanish-speaking youtuber recounts the events of the day. I wish I had taken Spanish instead of three years of high school French, so I got nothing. Lucky for us, a picture says a thousand words. And from these pics, I can tell you someone messed up and crashed a new Corvette ZR1!

The YouTuber goes by the name Engine Sounds and he provides what we assume is a play-by-play recount of the Sebring Orange ZR1 crashing during a track day in Puebla, Mexico. Unfortunately, No hablo español, so we’ll just recap what we see. Photos are interspersed throughout the video, but the money shot is at 7:35 which shows the video of the crash.

Much like the Corvette ZR1’s first recorded accident during the IndyCar race at Belle Isle in May 2018, it appears the Corvette ZR1 lost traction and spun with the rear end impacting the wall.

The video says that $2.5 million pesos in damage was done, which converts to $130,000 USD, totaling the car. Hopefully the 755-hp LT5 was undamaged and can be resurrected in another project. Wait until these engines start showing up in restomods!

Feel free for anyone to clue us in on the events!

Just an FYI for those Corvette ZR1 owners and others who track their cars. The NCM Insurance Agency offers protection for your Corvettes in HPDE events. You wear a helmet to protect yourself. Protect your Corvette with the NCM Insurance Agency.
