Corvette Racing Receives a 5kg Weight Reduction in Late Breaking Le Mans BoP Changes

FIA and ACO officials aren’t quite finished adjusting the Le Mans GTE-Pro class and we learned this morning that more changes have been made to the Balance of Performance ahead of Saturday’s race.

One of the confusing aspects of the BoP tables handed down earlier this week dealt with the Corvette C7.Rs racing weight. Originally, the car was given a 1244kg minimum race weight for the test. It turns out the C7.Rs at the test were weighed in around 1254kg, so when the BoP came out before Wednesday’s free practice, the car’s weight was officially raised to 1254kg. So that’s why it was called a wash.

With the new BoP that came out today, the Corvette C7.Rs will be given a weight break of 5kg. Now the question to ask is will the cars be raced at that weight? We would believe so…

The big winner in the latest BoP contest is the Aston Martin Vantage GTs which were the slowest in GTE-Pro all week. The Astons will run 10kg lighter than in qualifying and they also received a higher turbo boost as well.

The BMW M8 GTE will also be given a 10kg weight reduction.

Addressing the fastest cars in the class, Porsche’s 911 RSR was given a 10kg weight increase and the four Ford GTs will receive 8kg of additional weight.

The only adjustment for Ferrari will be a 1-liter increase in fuel capacity.

During the race, GTE-Pro contestants are limited to a maximum of 14 lap fuel stints. In the race, the opening stint of 11 laps is mandated while the final maximum stint is 13 laps.

Also helping out is that the Porsche 911s running in GTE-Am were also given extra weight. Several of the fastest GTE-Am cars qualified faster than cars in GTE-Pro including the No. 88 Dempsey Proton Racing Porsche which was faster than the No. 64 Corvette C7.R.
