A Corvette driver is in serious trouble after leading lawmen on a four-hour chase through two counties on state Highway 75 in Idaho on Friday night.

The chase ended appropriately enough in Ketchum, Idaho.

Peter M. Constantine, 62, of Oakland, Calif., has been charged with one felony count of eluding police and one felony count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The chase started innocently enough when a Custer County deputy tried to help Constantine, who had apparently driven his silver 2008 Corvette into a rock and had driven off Highway 75 in the Chalis area. Constantine apparently didn’t want any help and took off south on Highway 75, going as fast as 75 mph with the cop on his trail.

During the chase, the deputy got in front of the Corvette, but Constantine just hit the deputy’s car in the rear and then passed him. Neighboring Blaine County police joined the chase around 8 p.m., as Constantine neared that county.

Finally, near Galena, with three Custer County sheriff’s cars on his trail, Constantine swerved to miss a spike strip that had been placed on the highway but still punctured his front passenger tire. He kept going at about 45 mph before hitting another spike strip that punctured all of his tires this time near North Fork Campground north of Ketchum.

Still he didn’t give up, continuing to drive 18 mph with several patrol vehicles from both counties in pursuit. As he neared Ketchum, lawmen turned off their lights and sirens and backed off to try and prevent an innocent bystander from being hurt.

Even after police managed to block Constantine at the intersection of Main and Fourth streets, Constantine wouldn’t get out of his Corvette and he had to be forcibly removed by lawmen.

As of Tuesday, Constantine remained in Custer County jail with bond set at $250,000. He’ll be in court again on June 26 for a preliminary hearing.

  1. They should put a bullet in his head and throw him in a dumpster. You’ll never convince me he should be allowed to live!

  2. What J E?! Are YOU F’n retarded??! Maybe just an @$$wipe. He never went over 75MPH and slowed to 18MPH. He may very well have been intoxicated and we don’t know why as this article fails to give those kind of details. That’s a Z06 he’s driving which is capable of a lot higher speeds. So, he bumped a cop car, BFD. Cops kill innocent people ALL the time, if not by accident, then on purpose. Maybe you’ve ignored the news and the web. Maybe someone needs to “put a bullet” in your head and throw you in a dumpster, Jack@$$.

  3. Police don’t kill people! Stupid dangerous people force the police to put people down to keep morons like you safe! Wise up because you are completely clueless in every way!
