Generally speaking, Corvettes can be divided into two camps: those with all of the luxuries for comfortable cruising and those with all of the performance goodies for owners who like completion. Rarely a Corvette comes along that blurs the boundary and offers a unique combination of speed and comfort. Such a car is the 1965 Corvette Coupe now offered by ProTeam Corvettes.
The Corvette is equipped with such speed options as the 375 horsepower fuel-injected engine, 36-gallon fuel tank, 4.11 rear with Positraction, special heavy-duty suspension and off-road exhaust. Apparently the original owner wanted to go fast in comfort, because the car also has leather seats, power windows, power brakes, teakwood steering wheel, telescopic steering column and tinted glass.
In addition to all the above, the black/black Corvette was one of 41 big tank cars made 1965 and was delivered new for export to dealer code 1 in zone 21. It is believed to be the only original fuel injected/big tank/black combination in existence.
Following its early history as a race car in South America, it was discovered by ProTeam around 1997 and was subsequently purchased from Southern Peru Copper Corp. in Lima, Peru. The unique ‘Vette underwent a professional body-off restoration to show condition and has a pedigree that now includes multiple NCRS Top Flight awards, performance verification and the NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence award. It was also named to the 2002 Bloomington Gold Special Collection, Bloomington Gold Collection’s 50th Anniversary Salute to the 1965 Corvette and has been invited to the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals 2015 First Annual Corvette Invitational Display.
Recent owners include Alvin and Ronnie Steinman, and the John Justo Collection.
