Leake to Auction Tom Falbo's Collection of Corvettes in February

Forty classic Corvettes are slated to go across the auction block early next year, and there’s likely to be a new owner for each of them since they’re all being offered at no reserve!

The Corvettes, ranging from 1957 through 1975 models, are part of a collection of more than 100 cars from the Tom Falbo Collection that will be sold to the highest bidder during a sale conducted by Leake Auction Company in Oklahoma City in February.

Nineteen of the Corvettes are 1967 models, including 10 convertibles and nine coupes, some with 427 engines and 4-speed manual transmissions.

“The Corvettes are the cream of the crop,” said Richard Sevenoaks, president of Leake Auction. “He’s been collecting for 15 to 20 years. He had the cars covered and with trickle chargers, and with people detailing them, so cosmetically they’re in very good shape. Mechanically, we’re doing batteries and carburetors and gas tanks and brakes (in preparation for the sale).”

Sevenoaks believes the entire collection could fetch $4.5 million “or … a lot more.”

Leake is having Corvette expert Roy Sinor, recent winner of the National Corvette Restorers Society’s lifetime achievement award, inspect the cars.

A cursory inspection by Sinor has already revealed four cars as being very significant, all 1967 Corvettes, including a convertible in black with a red hood scoop and spear, black top and red leather interior; a coupe in the same black and red combo but with vinyl seats; a coupe in white and red with red vinyl seats; and a coupe in red and black with red leather.

“I think we’ll have an opportunity to set the market on ’67 Corvettes,” Sevenoaks said, noting that many of the cars were purchased at major auctions and from well-known Corvette specialists such as our friends at ProTeam Corvette in Ohio.

“We’ve already had Roy Sinor do a cursory inspection based on VIN and color,” Sevenoaks said. “He has not seen all the documentation yet, but will inspect the cars,” Sevenoaks said.

Sevenoaks admits selling the cars at no reserve “makes us hold our breath a little.”

But he believes with proper marketing and advertising, “we’ll have all the Corvette people there and it (selling a special group of cars at no reserve) worked well at Dallas though this is a little higher-end collection.”

The Corvettes will be on the block on Saturday, February 20. Visit www.leakecar.com for bidding information and to view all the lots.
