Most Memorial Day weekends, NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon is found preparing for the Coca-Cola 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. This Memorial Day weekend, he’ll be pulling the infamous “double” with a bit of a twist. While some drivers have attempted to drive both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day, Gordon will be in Indianapolis this Sunday to drive the 2015 Corvette Z06 pace car before jetting off to Charlotte to compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup 600 mile race later in the day.
Talking to reporters during his announcement as the Pace Car Driver at Indianapolis, the soon-to-be retiring NASCAR driver said “It’s such an amazing event to be a part of. So I’m just thrilled I get the opportunity to be here, and then to actually play a role in the event by driving the Z06 Corvette pace car is something I don’t think I can quite grasp at this moment.”
Here’s a video of Jeff Gordon talking to reporters while showing him inside the Corvette Z06 Pace Car on the track at Indianapolis:
Gordon was in the news earlier this week too as Fox Sports announced that the four-time Spring Cup Champion will be joining the network in 2016 for its NASCAR broadcasts as an analyst and on-air personality.
Watch Gordon lead the pack of Indy 500 racers this Sunday as he pilots the Arctic White 2015 Corvette Z06 Indy 500 Pace Car this Sunday. The Green Flag drops at 12:15 pm ET on ABC television.
