[VIDEO] Lets Go Autocrossing in a 1963 Corvette Grand Sport

If you’ve never driven or ridden in a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, this 45-second video is the next best thing.

Just be sure you have some Dramamine handy in case the constant twists and turns have an effect on you.

The driver of the Grand Sport is Tyler Powell, who says he’s a rookie on the autocross tour, but you’d never know it from the success he’s enjoying this week as the early leader during the inaugural Cruisin’ the Coast autocross in the northwest parking lot of the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi.

The event started Tuesday and featured a shootout Wednesday, putting two cars on the course at the same time, beginning at approximately 2 p.m.

For the uninitiated, autocross drivers are timed as they make their way through a marked course. Some think it offers an entry into the world of motorsports that includes the more competitive rally car and circuit racing.

We’re not sure how fast Powell is going in this video, but he says he’s had the speedometer as high as 158 mph on his Grand Sport, which has been updated with a 6.2-liter LS2 engine more commonly seen in the 2005 Corvette.

The view and the sounds from the Grand Sport make this must-see TV.
