Callaway Resumes Development of the C7 Corvette GT3 Racer

It was just a year ago that Callaway received authorization from GM to build and race a GT3-spec C7 Corvette in Europe but changing regulations forced the project to be put on hold.

The good news is that the GT regulations have been finalized for the time being and so Callaway Competition’s GT3 Corvette Stingray build is back on.

Our brothers at CorvetteMotorsport.com gave us an update on the project which they see coming to fruition in 2015:

To Inquiring fans about our C7 GT3, the project is active & in development. Currently set for a mid 2015 debut + full season in 2016. Your first “teaser” image shows the new thoroughbred LT1-R (Gen 5 LT1) engine from APP. This excellent new engine provides better mpg + power: A deadly combination. More teasers coming soon! According to Sportscar365.com, the hold on development means that the GT3 Corvette will miss out on the 2015 season’s Balance of Performance Test at Michelin’s Ladoux test track in September. The team looks to complete extensive testing of the GT3-spec C7 Corvette next year before entering a full season of competition in 2016.

Callaway is campaigning four C6-based Corvette Z06.R GT3s in the German ADAC GT Masters series. That program has recently scored two wins at the Red Bull Ring and Daniel Keilwitz is currently ranked 5th in the drivers’ standings midway through the season.
