The Dragon Vette Continues its Evolution

Remember the world’s worst custom painted Corvette, the Dragon Vette? Apparently it has undergone several more transformations and is now Atomic Orange with a Black tail and wheels. Is it me, or is all that paint turning the Corvette into a wide-body?

The back story on the car supposedly goes like this: Man and woman divorcing so man hatches plan to deny her the Corvette. Mission accomplished! For those new to the Dragon Vette saga, follow this link to see how the Dragon Vette got its name.

While the Dragon Vette is a salute to the can-do spirit of a man and a paint roller, the owner isn’t afraid to turn to professionals for the under-the-hood mods made to the car. The last update we did on the Dragon Vette was when it was spotted in a dealership last April receiving a supercharger upgrade.

At first, I found the modifications and horrible paint to be an insult to Corvettes everywhere. But I’ve since moved beyond those feelings and now I’m slightly in awe of the owner and his “could care less” attitude. The upside? You can drive it in the rain and snow, you never have to wax, and when you get tired of a particular color, just breakout the paint and roller and have at it.

  1. What is it about orange and its frequent use in lousy paint jobs? Our latest project is a garishly orange (was originally red) 1977 Corvette where somebody thought it would be cool to paint the engine the same lovely shade of orange. It’s the third project car we’ve come across where an amateur slathered the thing in orange.
