Last week the Corvette world was all a flutter over the news that the 1956 SR-2 Corvette Racecar – the first purpose-built Corvette racer built by Chevrolet – is being offered for sale.

The sale of the car is being handled by Corvette Mike Vietro for the tidy sum of $6.885 Million. To help support the sale of the car, Corvette Mike produced this video to show off the car and talk about its outstanding history.

The Corvette SR-2 Racer evokes an emotional response from everyone that sees it. At the time of it’s introduction it represented the highest level of automotive racing design and performance. This was the first General Motors “purpose-built” American Sports Racing Car from the Golden Era of Racing. The SR-2 was the combined spirit of two great men in Corvette History and culmination of many great things that were happening at GM in the early to mid-1950’s.

The Corvette changed for 1968, evolving into the 3rd generation for the American sports car. The sleek new styling looks like full speed standing still, a trait shared by most Corvettes. This week’s Muscle Car Of The Week could be considered the top-gun of all ’68 Corvettes, as it carries a 500+ HP 427 under the hood, an optioned named the “L88″. L88 cars featured not only a distinctive hood, but a whole list of performance enhancements… the F41 performance suspension, J56 heavy duty brakes, a Muncie M22 4-speed transmission, and of course, the 12.5:1 compression 427 V8. The LeMans Blue roadster in the Brothers Collection is one of only 80 built in ’68, and it might look like a nice Sunday cruiser, but it was a thinly disguised race car sold to the public!

[VIDEO] Corvettes at Carlisle: GM Walk-Around of the 2012 Corvette

For those that weren’t able to attend this year’s Corvettes at Carlisle show, here is the video from Friday of GM’s Corvette Team doing a walk-around of the 2012 Corvettes. Although many have seen these presentations at different shows and races around the country, we can always glean some new information from the team.

[VIDEO] Walk Around the 2011 Corvette Z06X Track-Ready Concept

When Chevrolet introduced the 2011 Corvette Z06X at last fall’s SEMA show, we said at the time that Chevy had created one of the most exciting concepts to date. After seeing and hearing the Z06X Concept up close and personal at last month’s Twelve Hours of Sebring, it reaffirmed our call for Chevrolet to build it.
