Corvettes, be they ZR1s or Z06s, have always seemed to rule in Edmunds’ Burnout Super Tests.
Driver Josh Jacquot’s latest challenge in his continuing series featured the “old timer” 2012 ZR1 against the “young whippersnapper” 2013 SRT Viper.
Car and Driver Technical Editor Michael Austin recently put Chevrolet’s best Corvettes – the ZR1 and the Z06 – against one another, giving us what he loves about the Corvette but at the same time telling us what it needs to do to remain relevant as it enters its seventh generation.
He recently pushed the two flagship Corvettes to their limits at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in Desert Center, California and came away impressed but at the same disappointed.
A group of Chevy engineers testing the 2014 C7 Corvette prototypes were spotted in and around the town of Red River, New Mexico late last week. A member on the Corvette Forum named 10KillerVette found this out when his dad called him to say he just saw two C7 Corvettes in full camouflage testing in the mountains around the town. Like any Corvette fan would do, 10KillerVette aka Sean Ziese told his dad Richard to “get his ass back out on the roads with a camera!” And that’s exactly how we got these photos and a brief video to share with you!
America’s best vs. Japan’s best – the rear-wheel-drive, manually shifted, 505-hp 2012 Corvette Z06 Centennial Edition against Nissan’s high-tech, twin-turbo, 545-hp 2013 Nissan GT-R Premium.
That’s what the folks at Edmund’s insideline.com carried to the battlefield recently, with the same results as World War II this time around. Score one for the good ol’ USA.
When Motor Trend had the 2012 Corvette Z06 Centennial Edition in their garage a month ago, not only did they test the car against last year’s Z06, but they also put it up against 10 other sports cars in a comparison test Motor Trend calls the “Best Driver’s car”. These big time productions rarely produce anything more than bragging rights in the comments section and a steady supply of cool automotive videos. Normally I would jump right in and start dissecting the results, but after seeing the Corvette’s ranking and who these wizards of smart voted a better driver’s car than the Z06, I think I might just go ahead and skip to the cool videos.
Corvettes Run Fastest Lap in GT Class in Every Session of Two-Day Sebring Test
SEBRING, Fla., Feb. 10, 2011 – Corvette Racing’s twin Compuware Corvette C6.Rs ran the fastest laps in all four sessions of the two-day American Le Mans Series Winter Test at Sebring International Raceway. After Jan Magnussen turned the quickest times in the first three sessions on the historic circuit in the No. 4 Corvette C6.R, Olivier Beretta posted the fastest lap of the test in the GT class with the No. 3 Corvette C6.R in the final session.
Some people have really cool jobs. Just ask Edmunds Inside Line Road Test Editor Chris Walton who found an excuse to play with three special Corvettes at Willow Springs Raceway. Billed as the Corvettemegeddon Comparison, Chris drove a prototype of the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon edition, a 2010 Grand Sport Coupe and a 2002 Z06 and put the three sports cars through a series of high performance tests.
