The 2014 Corvette Stingray made its first visit to the Southeast United States this weekend where it was on display at the Amelia Island Concours D’Elegance. The Stingray Coupe was situated on the grounds of the Ritz Carlton’s golf course and it was joined by white versions of Corvettes from each of the previous C1-C6 generations.

On a recent installment of his Jay Leno’s Garage, the words “amazing” and “exciting” and “beautiful” are heard frequently as he and designer Ed Welburn do a walk-around inside and outside the car at Brown’s Classic Auto in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Following the invite-only reveal last Sunday night, we attended Corvette’s public Press Conference debut the following morning at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. After some remarks by GM’s Mary Barra, the new Stingray rolled out onto the soaring Corvette display and parked in between some of its older siblings. The elder Corvettes all wore varying shades of white while the newborn chose the more raucous shade of Torch Red.

Another week, another round of rumors about the development of the next generation C7 Corvette. GM Inside News is saying that the C7 will be an evolution (not revolution) of design from the C6, and that we are to expect a more European-looking design. Not breaking news so far, they did say they were able to confirm that the split rear window will not be on the next-gen Corvette.
General Motor’s Vice President of Global Design Ed Welburn recently spoke with Automotive News while he was in Frankfurt and the subject of the Corvette’s redesign came up. Specifically, Welburn talked about the difficulty in designing a new Corvette, which has 58 years of history and a very loyal fan base.
XP-122, better known as the 1953 Corvette concept that was part of GM’s historic ’53 Motorama, returned to the ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria hotel last Saturday to take part in a presentation with GM Global Vice President of Design Ed Welburn. Welburn spoke to the company’s international sales executives as General Motors looks to expand its sales efforts outside the USA.
GM’s VP of Global Design Ed Welburn was asked to put together his list of the top 10 Chevrolet’s ever produced as the company celebrates the 100 years since the founding of the brand. As head of the General Motors design studios, Welburn follows in the footsteps of legendary Chevy designers Harley Earl and Bill Mitchell. As such, Welburn picks are tightly focused on the heritage of style and innovation that resulted in some of the most iconic cars and trucks produced by the automaker. In his list of top 10 Chevys, two of Welburn’s picks are Corvettes.
Here are some real world photos of the C6 Corvette-based Rossi SixtySix from its appearance at the Bloomington Gold Corvette show last weekend. While computer renderings are cool in all, it’s refreshing to see a car actually live up to the hype.
Almost two years ago the world was introduced to the Rossi SixtySix, a C6 Corvette refitted with custom panels that borrow some of the best design features of the 1963-67 Sting Rays while updating the mid-year look for the 21 century. No longer just a dream, the Rossi SixtySix project is tooled up and well underway with the first car, a Pearl White Split Window Coupe making its public debut this Sunday at Detroit’s EyesOn Design benefit.
