Thanks to America’s “The Latest is the Greatest” mentality, the C5 Corvette doesn’t always get the respect it deserves for saving the brand – and for being a pretty darn good sports car.
As the former owner of a 1997 and a 2002, I’ve seen firsthand just how good these cars are (though admittedly they’re nowhere near the caliber of the C7). I’ve also seen firsthand how the C5 values have plummeted because of said C7.

Crime definitely didn’t pay for a Batavia, N.Y., man who is in state prison and lost his 1999 Corvette convertible to the Genesee County (N.Y.) Sheriff’s Department after being convicted of drug crimes.
But crime WILL pay for the local Drug Task Force, which will get the proceeds from the sale of the Corvette through a County Highway Department online auction next month.

The black convertible, along with a white 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback, Land Down Underwere stolen from a “panel beating workshop” – as they apparently call a body shop down there – in Melbourne, Australia.

A Corvette once associated with a drug dealer is now helping Bartlett, Tennessee police teach youngsters about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
The 1999 model has been adorned with patriotic decals as part of the DARE program, or Drug Abuse Resistance Education, which aims to show fourth and fifth graders how to keep peer pressure from making them succumb to drugs and alcohol.

The title on the Dallas Craigslist ad simply reads “1999 Chevrolet Corvette Yellow 8 Cylinder Automatic Coupe – $104,900”. Savvy internet searchers will immediately notice the $105k price tag and wonder what kind of C5 can merit such a lofty sum. Well, this one can as it’s one of the 19 Callaway C12’s built in 1999.
