This weekend the NTT IndyCar Series is racing at Road America for the REV Group Grand Prix and the pace car for the event is a Red Mist 2021 Corvette Stingray. Over the last few IndyCar races, we’ve taken notice of the pre-race coverage by the IndyCar series on social media that features a veteran driver taking a rookie around the track in the Pace Car. While we believe the idea is that the drivers will be discussing the track, inevitably they end up having a conversation about how nice the new Corvettes are.

At the beginning of June, Chevrolet announced that it was cutting allocations for the final 2021 Corvette order cycle while also committing to build all those cars for customers whose orders were at Order Status 3000 or above. This announcement followed on the heels of the Corvette Assembly Plant being closed during three of the previous four weeks due to a parts shortage. For members of the Corvette Team, it seemed like deja vu from 2020 all over again.

According to Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter, that’s exactly the situation they were trying to avoid.

You can’t order a new 2022 Corvette Stingray just yet, but we are getting closer.

That’s the takeaway from a new report from our friends at the CorvetteActionCenter.com who shared images of the 2022 Corvette ordering screens that are now showing on GM’s internal workbench ordering system.
