A black 1990 Corvette convertible wound up with its front end smashed against a fence at a California hotel on Friday, Nov. 18th.

The driver of the C4 Corvette may have been saved by his airbag as he appeared to have escaped without injuries after the collision with a white Toyota Tacoma near the intersection of West Fourth and Commercial streets in Eureka, California about 1 p.m.

The collision caused the Tacoma to wind up on its side, and police at first thought the driver might have to be extricated but he was soon able to get himself out of the vehicle.

Humboldt Bay Fire Department personnel placed the Tacoma driver in a neck brace and later took him to a hospital in an ambulance.

No word on the cause of the accident, though the Corvette driver underwent a field sobriety test on the scene and was not immediately arrested by Eureka police officers.

California Highway Patrol, Humboldt Bay Fire and the Eureka Police Department all responded to the scene.
