Former BMW Owner Shares the Delivery of a New 2016 Corvette Z06

I love stories like this next one.

A former BMW owner who was so taken with the C7 Corvette Z06, he made the plunge and is now a new Corvette owner. He has not only documented his delivery, but he has some great things to say about his dealer, Robert Kramer and the professional staff from Sport Chevrolet in Silver Spring, MD.

Sanjay, who goes by the Corvette Forum handle of “Checkmate1” purchased a Torch Red Corvette Z06 in 2LZ trim with an 8-speed automatic. Here is what this now former import owner has to say about America’s favorite sports car:

Hello Friends,

Figured I’d photo- document by C7 Z06 journey as it’s been absolutely delightful from the get-go.

I cannot thank the dynamic duo of Robert Kramer and Steve Colman @ Sport Chevrolet in Silver Spring MD as they were absolutely fantastic from the word GO. No BS and right to the point as far as pricing goes, there was little time wasted as far as engaging me and wrapping up the deal. I cannot express how accommodating these guys have been considering this was my first ever GM product (let all alone a Z06!). Steve has a beautiful Z28 and Cobra that he always willing to share. As a fellow enthusiast, Steve’s gleaming face as he shares pictures of his pride/joy only validates why Ferdinand Porsche said ‘the last ever car on earth will be a sports car’.

In this age of ultra-fast technology where everything needs to be in writing or go, time is a luxury few of us have. Considering the personal service at the speed at which most of us are accustomed to, high praise goes to SPORT and these two guys for being the Gold standard for Order/Delivery/Finance without any push for after sales services/packages. Consider me a lifelong customer after my experience.

For anyone on the East Coast, it’s a great place to have folks like Kerbeck and Criswell as options as well. Huge respect to Amoni and Mike Furman for their constant support to this community however please consider SPORT as your definite 3rd option. You will not be disappointed.

A little background on my self-

I used to be a huge BMW fan before this. Recent developments from BMW/M have me quite disappointed.

I’ve owned the following cars before the Z:

  • 2007 Ford Mustang (gave it to my sister)
  • 2005 BMW Z4 3.0i Sport (sold)
  • 2004 BMW E46 M3 coupe (sold)
  • 2011 BMW E90 M3 sedan (sold)
Here’s a picture of my M3’s of past-

The reason I moved to the Corvette was because of the C7 Period. From the moment I saw the C7 Stingray 2 years ago, it was obvious GM had moved the game substantially compared to its peers and more importantly European imports. There was little doubt that America (if needed) could build a Sports Car that could rival and yes, beat its European counterparts in every measurable parameter without the hefty ‘brand’ tax that would go with it. Dollar/HP, GM had it locked.

Of course when the Z06 came out, part of me wondered if the Supercharged Motor would be reliable on the Track. Although the Z06 has taken on some heat (pardon the pun) lately, what sold me was the fact that here was something most people still thought impossible. A 650HP/TQ Supercar with none of the Supercar drawbacks. It has a 50/50 weight distribution, a fantastic chassis and suspension, spacious trunk, beautiful interior and (for those who have the coupe), I could take the roof off! Let’s not forget the stunning looks. There is no denying it’s a Corvette from any angle. It make no apologies to any one. This is for all intensive purposes, the attainable average man’s scalpel and sledgehammer rolled into what essentially is an Earth Bound Excocet.

GM was hoping they could convert a lot of young people to the Corvette (I believe we are all young, age is just a number you see). Count me as one of them. I am in my 30’s and as someone who will be starting a family soon; this was my last chance to own something that would satisfy my formative years as a father. I am blessed to have an extremely supportive wife as well. The right thing would be to own something practical and less expensive over the next few years but then again, just because I’m getting older doesn’t mean I need to grow up!

All that being said, let’s move on to my car-

My Z06 order went on line on my birthday – March 2. Car got to Sport Chevrolet on Friday, April 8th.

Special mention needs to go to Cliff @ Auto Armour, Columbia, MD. He and Chai did an amazing job wrapping the front of my car in XPEL. Anyone who wants their car PPF’d should not look further than Cliff. He comes highly recommended in the enthusiast community and from my experience, its praise well deserved.

I hope to enjoy this car for many years and cannot thank this forum for the constant support.

Looking forward to contributing enormously on here.

Best,
Sanjay/Checkmate

Thanks Sanjay for your email and welcome to Corvette Nation! Not only was your letter a fantastic testimonial for one of our sponsoring dealerships, but your conversion to Corvette is exactly was Chevrolet was aiming for with the C7.
