[PICS] The 2015 Corvettes at Carlisle Show

The 2015 edition of Corvettes at Carlisle is now in the review mirror. This year’s show was easily the biggest and best in recent memory. Brilliant sunshine illuminated the Carlisle Fairgrounds throughout the weekend and rain was never a factor. From the Fun Field to Swap Meet to the seminars, we covered it all for you.

We began our 2015 experience about 8am on Friday morning. After parking the CorvetteBlogger C4 Mobile Command Unit at the top of the famous hill we descended down through Installers Alley and wandered the for sale lot looking for another treasure to take home. From there we made our way across the fairgrounds to the Corvette Value Trends Seminar.

There we learned about what Corvette values have done over the last decade or so and some of the various auction shenanigans that can take place. Next up we headed over the Corvette Mechanic tent to take in one of Paul Koerner’s and Brittany George’s highly informative interactive seminars. Their tent was overflowing with attendees throughout the weekend. Their talks are always worthwhile even if you don’t own a modern Corvette.

Friday also marked another assembling of the Corvette American flag on the big hill. Over 150 red, white, and blue Corvettes made up this year’s display. The flag was just 1 part of Carlisle’s 2015 Salute to the Troops theme. Other signature activities included a special veterans tribute and a swearing in ceremony for new recruits. The Chip’s Choice theme this year was Honoring our Heroes and included cars owned by members of our military.

Next up was the 2016 Corvette walk around by the GM team and a well needed break from the aforementioned sun. Later we sought fresh air during the annual burnout contest. Only 1 C5 owner stepped up to the plate this year so Lance Miller did a burnout in his Carlisle Blue ZR1 and Corvette America performed one of their own in their cutaway C3. Lance’s daughter, Ella, stole the show with the world’s most adorable burnout in her Carlisle Blue Power Wheels Corvette Stingray complete with pink tire smoke.

Saturday it was back to the show early. By 830 we could tell this day was going to be huge. By midday most all of the fun field was stuffed full of cars as was both sides of the big hill. Cars were even parked all the way down on the autocross course adjacent to the freeway which we’d never seen before. We’re pretty confident that the estimates of 5,000 attending Corvettes are accurate. Even the Saturday night downtown parade was the largest ever at 520 cars.

Our goal Saturday was to see as much as we could. So we walked, and walked, and then walked some more. We hit the swap meet, the NCRS gallery, the 1965 Corvette display, the 25th anniversary ZR1 display, the NCCC show, and wandered every other corner of the Fun Field. Corvettes were parked everywhere we looked. As usual we wrapped up our Carlisle experience with the Saturday night downtown parade. This year a record 520 Corvettes participated as the streets of downtown Carlisle were lined 3-4 deep to catch a look at all of the cars driving by. Meanwhile an 80’s tribute band laid down some sweet tunes while the cars rolled by.

Sunday meant an early departure back to the Motor City Bureau so we didn’t get a chance to catch the autocross or any of the awards parade. If you were there, post some photos to our Facebook or Twitter pages.

After a 3 year hiatus, this blogger returned to Carlisle and was quickly reminded why this is must-see Corvette event. There truly is something there for everyone. There’s kids area for the little ones, a Women’s Oasis for the fairer sex and every conceivable Corvette you can imagine. From 97 point NCRS and Bloomington Show cars to wild restomods, to all out Corvette racers you’re bound to see something you’ve never peeped before. If you’ve never been to Carlisle we highly recommend you start your planning now. We’ve already got our hotel reservations for next year and can’t wait see what’s in store for us in 2016.
