1953 Corvette No. 198 to be Featured at Mecum's Dallas Sale

A 1953 Corvette that became just the second first-year model to earn Bloomington Gold SURVIVOR status will be on the auction block at the Mecum Auction in Dallas set for Sept. 16-19.

This Corvette, the 198th ever made, comes from the Dean Klein Collection. No other details were available, but the SURVIVOR ranking means that the car passed stringent requirements at Bloomington, including remaining at least 50 percent unrestored or altered in any way.

If you’d like an updated classic, then Klein is also offering a very slick beige over shale 1961 resto-mod, his No. 45 CRC Corvette built on a 2003 50th Anniversary convertible chassis.

The car has just 1,649 miles on the odometer and features a carbon fiber CRC custom body, with a very cool tilting front end. It has custom vintage coil covers, the modern touch of the 2003 donor interior, and a 6-speed transmission connected to a 350 motor.

The buyer will also receive a hardbound book documenting the build process as well as the original 2003 Corvette window sticker.

And if you need a little more room to haul the family around, Klein also is selling his 1955 Bel-Air resto-mod with tens of thousands of dollars believed to have been spent updating the car.

It’s powered by a 350 Chevrolet engine with modern Inglese fuel injection and four-speed transmission, powder coated headers, MSD distributor, power steering, air conditioning, dual electric cooling fans, four-wheel cross drilled disc brakes, Billet alternator, air conditioning compressor, brackets, pulleys, Russel hoses, polished aluminum radiator, and air conditioning condenser.

Then there is a new leather interior featuring bucket seats with a console, a modern instrument cluster, tilt steering column, tinted glass, and a high-dollar sound system with big speakers, power booster with remote control and CD player.

The two-tone metallic silver and white car rides on new Bose Billet 17- and 18-inch wheels with new 235-17 tires on the front and 245-18 Riken tires on the rear.
