[VIDEO] 1969 L88 Convertible Sells at Gooding and Co for $825,000

We first told you about this highly decorated 1969 L88 convertible back in August 2012 when it was about to cross Mecum’s Anaheim auction block. There it was bid to $550,000 and did not sell. Last week it traversed Gooding and Co’s Scottsdale auction stage and hammered sold for $750,000. Throw in the 10% buyer’s fee and the new owner wrote a check for $825,000 to take this baby home.

L88 Corvettes continue to bring massive amounts of money and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. The LeMans Blue roadster is widely considered to be one of the most highly optioned and best documented L88’s known to exist. It still wears mostly original paint, the original exhaust, interior, and shocks.

Chevrolet built just 116 L88 equipped Corvettes for the 1969 model year. Less than half of those were convertibles. The highly optioned model seen here is equipped with the thumping 430hp 427ci engine, M22 4 speed transmission, tinted windows, shoulder belts, hardtop, rear defroster, engine block heater, heavy duty brakes, transistor ignition, and alarm.

Sold as Lot #128, the car was included in the 1988, 1998, and 2008 Bloomington Gold Special Collections. In addition, it claimed a Bloomington Gold SURVIVOR Award in 2006. The car is one of just 6 L88 Corvettes to be inducted into the Bloomington Gold Hall of Fame.

Documentation includes a complete owner history, the tank sticker, the statement of origin, Protect-O-Plate, and GM Invoice delivery schedule.

We’ll have more significant Corvette sales from the January auctions coming up over the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned!
