Mecum Kissimmee 2011 Preview: 1956 Arctic Blue Corvette Roadster

Article Contributed by Steve Burns

Yesterday we began our preview of Mecum’s Kissimmee sale with Lot # W207, a very unique 1991 coupe. Today we continue with our Thursday featured Corvette, Lot # T218: a stunning, low mile 1956 Roadster. Beginning Wednesday, January 26th and ending on the 30th over 150 Corvettes will cross the block in search of new homes at Mecum’s annual January event.

1956 marked the first major body changes to the Corvette. The now-famous side coves made their debut as well as formal roll-up windows. The new coves could painted in a number of accent colors or just left to match the body itself. In addition, one could now order a hard top with their new Vette. That hard top would be painted to match one of the 6 factory color offerings that year. Total production for 1956 was up to 3,467 units.

Lot T218 will cross the auction block about 6:40pm on Thursday, January 27th. This museum-kept C1 is one of just 390 examples painted in new Arctic Blue. The exterior color is accented beautifully by silver coves, a bright red interior, and beige soft top. This grouping makes for a simply striking combination of colors. Power is provided by the 225hp 283 CI motor which is mated to the standard 3-speed manual transmission. The seller claims just 42,000 miles on the odometer and a NCRS Top Flight award in in 2008 although they don’t mention if it’s a Chapter, Regional, or National level award or the actual score received. When we add up the options, amazing color combo, and Top Flight award we can expect very spirited bidding on this unique piece of Corvette history.
