Buying a 2012 Corvette is going to cost you more money. That’s our analysis after seeing the new pricing for 2012 Corvettes that were released today by General Motors. A quick review reveals that MSRP pricing is going up anywhere from $480-$1,150 based on the model. The only model seeing a pricing decrease is the 2012 Corvette ZR1 which will see its MSRP drop by $75.
In addition to the MSRP prices going up, most of the prices for the Equipment Group packages are going up as well. 2LT Coupes and GS Coupes will rise from 2011’s $1,195 to $2,095. 3LT Coupes and GS Coupes will go from $4,205 to $5,995 and 4LT Coupes and GS Coupes will rise from $7,705 to $9,495.
The models that show a decrease in Equipment Group pricing is the Convertible/Grand Sport Convertibles but only in the 2LT package. The 2LT price drops from $3,190 to $2,095. However, the 3LT packages are up from 2011’s $6,200 to $7,995 and 4LT packages for the topless Corvettes go up from $9,700 to $11,495.
The big news for the 2012 Corvette is the Chevrolet Centennial Special Edition. The one-year only black metallic Corvettes with black wheels, red trim and Louis Chevrolet graphics will add an additional $4,950 to the pricing of any of the six Corvette models.

An $1800 increase in the 3LT package? If I’m not mistaken, most people get the 3LT package. Add that to the base increase mentioned above, and the 2012 has went up ~$2500 to $3000. That’s about a 5% increase. In a crappy economy? Fail.
I have to agree with “M”… A bad economy, GM leadership LIED about repaying government bribes to the unions; AND they raise the price… I had to talk myself into overlooking the “buy out” issue, and consider buying a new Vette. But to see that the price is rising, I have to question what other failings are afoot after this “buy out”, and injection of government into a car company (which has never worked out well anywhere else it was tried).
So just as I got over the “buy out” thing, and talked myself into leaving the German car cult; GM pulls this? Why should I support that? Buying a Vette, after GM lied about repaying the “bail out”, after prices increase; is akin to validating bad behavior. I think that GM just talked me out of a Vette, and into considering the “other” American car company…

talk about the corvette tax! now it is self-inflicted by GM; not by the aftermarket….this just makes retention of my C5 all the more appealing….the $595 colored calipers is insane…we all repaint them for about $10 in materials…what sane buyer will order them?

The price of new cars are killing them self. Good luck selling them. GM sucks they think most people have money. Most people make around 25,000 to 50,000 and that is middle class. I think people need to boycot GM. They sell junk any way.
I have a Denali and a SRX both GM products. I am now going to switch to a different company. The SRX Cadillac is the poorest quality I have seen in a GM product. Raise the price on junk and it is still junk and besides it is built by a bunch of lazy Union people that have to have protection for not working. So long GM.
2011 torch red vette , what a poor quality paint job?looks like it was painted withdirt on the body! many bubbles ?
Well………..With this pricing I am rethinking the mid-year restomod……..hand maid quality and a feeling while driving that GM can’t duplicate. Only if a new Corvette is on your Buckel List will G.M. sell at these prices !
I will stay with a mid-year restomod GM has never duplicated the feel inside 63-67
and they are hand made……………
I’ve owned a long list of ‘Vettes, each driven extensively.
I have hung on to my ’04 Coupe awhile, as GM floundered
and prices climbed without a corresponding increase in value
received ( not to mention that the interior shrunk just enough
that this Big American barely fits, now ) . My hope was that
2012 would be the year a GS coupe took it’s place in my
driveway.. But with $400 “color” charges for brake calipers
added to the 56K base price, plus the charges to “trim” a
colorless interior, well… My ’04 is looking pretty good.
Am planning to buy a corvette , am thinking of 2012 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible or Z06. Any Advice?
