Johor Motorsports Racing didn’t waste any time picking up its first win in the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R.
JMR’s team of Alexander Sims and Prince Jefri Ibrahim drove the No. 99 Corvette to a debut victory in the second leg of the opening round of the new GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS on Sunday at Sepang.
It looked like the Corvette team would have to settle for third late in the race, but with seven minutes to go, they were able to take advantage of contact between Lu Wei in the No. 4 Origine Porsche and Zhou Bihuang in the leading No. 2 Climax Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.

Lu earned a drive-through penalty for the contact, and Jefri Ibrahim was able to move into the lead and then hold on for the checkered flag for Corvette’s first win in Asia on JMR’s debut with the new car.
In action Saturday, defending champions Yuan Bo and Leo Ye Hongli were winners again in their No. 87 Origine Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 R.
The win Sunday moved the Corvette duo of Sims and Jefri Ibrahim into an early lead of two points in the championship over Yuan and Ye, with Oosten and Ruan 10 points behind in third.
GTWC Asia action continues with the second round of the season at Mandalika Circuit in Indonesia on May 10-11.
