With a proven 60-year-old driver behind the wheel, the #70 Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R will be looking to prove that it’s still got some gas in the tank, despite not being the shiniest new toy in the garage.
Veteran driver Mirco Schultis will be driving the C7 Corvette for MISHUMOTORS in the 2025 GT World Challenge America powered by AWS series, beginning with the opening round of the season at Sonoma Raceway, California this weekend.
Schultis made the decision to return in the Corvette after SRO America reverted GT America to its original 40-minute, single-driver sprint format for 2025. The series initially planned an option for two drivers and pit stops, but the change was reversed after being met with limited interest from competitors.
“I made the decision to come back in January after SRO went back to the old GT America race format. I’m looking forward especially to Long Beach, where I had the second fastest lap in both races. For sure, it’s an old lady that never got an EVO package…but I just love her. It’s difficult to fight with the others on some circuits where aero is needed. But I’m looking forward to testing myself against the competition this year,” Schultis said.
Besides Sonoma, the GT America series will have seven other rounds of competition, including Grand Prix of Long Beach, Circuit of the Americas, Sebring, VIRginia International Raceway, Road America, Barber Motorsports Park, and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The Callaway C7 may be entering its 10th year of competition, but it will have a new yellow, orange, pink, and purple livery in honor of Paulaner Sunset, an all-natural, German-brewed orange cola that is the new primary sponsor of the MISHUMOTORS Callaway Corvette.
The Callaway C7 GT3-R debuted in 2016 and enjoyed its most successful season the next year as Callaway Competition took the ADAC GT Masters Teams’ and Drivers’ Championships. It’s also won races in GT World Challenge Asia and the SRO Japan Cup series.
In 2022, MISHUMOTORS began competing in GT America with the Callaway GT3-R chassis #001, which had been originally used by the Callaway Competition team. Since then, Schultis and the Callaway Corvette have compiled eight SRO3 class podiums in 40 races, with a best finish of second at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2022.

Awesome looking race car. I own a 2017 C7 Chevy Corvette Z51 Coupe with the 7 speed manual transmission & I love it. It’s good to see the C7 series still racing. Good luck, Micro, much success.
