Score a New-to-You Corvette and More at Freije and Freije's Fall Big Boy Toy Auction

It’s September and that means our friends at Freije and Freije Auctions are back with their annual Fall Big Boy Toy Auction. The big event happens Saturday, September 16th at their facility at 2340 W US Highway 40 in Clayton, Indiana. The action kicks off promptly at 9am.

As we’ve seen in the past, Freije and Freije offers a diverse auction docket containing vehicles, auto memorabilia, and more. The lots will be spread across 3 rings. Ring #1 will feature automobilia, signs, gas pumps, and more while Ring #2 will see the classic and collector cars, trucks, and hot rods. Ring #3 is the online version for more automobilia, road art, and such offered on BUYFREIJE.com.

As we assemble this preview, we see 18 Corvettes and Corvette related items that await your bids. That breaks down to 12 Corvettes, 5 pieces of automobilia, and 1 cool Corvette powered 1955 Chevy Cameo pickup.

Corvettes from 1961 to 2002 occupy the vehicle portion of the docket. Those 12 whips further breakdown like this: 1 1961 C1, 9 C3’s ranging from 1972 to 1981, 1 1990 C4 ZR1, and 1 2002 C5 coupe.

Here’s a couple Corvettes to keep an eye on during the fall Big Boy Toy sale.

1990 Red/Tan ZR1 Coupe

1990 CHEVROLET ZR1 CORVETTE

RPO ZR1 returned to the Corvette lineup in 1990. The big news was under the C4 clamshell hood in the form of the revolutionary 375hp DOHC, 32 valve, LT5 engine. The first overhead cam and multivalve engine ever in a Corvette was designed in Europe by Lotus and assembled in Stillwater, Oklahoma by Mercury Marine. From there, the LT5’s were installed into Corvettes in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The ZR1 also featured special bodywork from the A-pillar back which added 3 inches of width to the car. The extra space allowed for massive 315 width tires out back. In its debut year Chevrolet sold over 3,000 ZR1’s. The C4 Corvette ZR1 is probably best known for the many speed records that it holds. The most notable of which is the 24hour endurance record of 175.885mph.

1990 Red/Tan ZR1 Coupe

This late-production 1990 ZR1 featured here is finished in Bright Red over a tan leather interior. The odometer shows 62,477 miles and it features the 375hp LT5 engine backed to the ZF 6-speed manual transmission. Other features include power steering, brakes, and locks in addition to both targa tops and 1994 and 1995-style A-mold wheels wrapped in Nitto tires.

1973 Green/Tan Convertible

1973 CHEVROLET CORVETTE

In the early-to mid 1970’s, Corvette was beginning to succumb to the new insurance, emission, and safety constraints. While it was no longer a total street bruiser, Corvette was still a fantastic driving car thanks to newly minted radial tires and a host of other small improvements.

For 1973 Corvette received a new energy absorbing plastic front bumper and side gills. The pop up wiper door was gone thanks to a new, longer hood. Three engine choices were available beginning with the base L48, then the optional L82 350 which was followed by the LS4 454 big block.

1973 Green/Tan Convertible

Our 1973 Corvette at the Big Boy Toy sale is powered by the top-dog 454 engine that’s backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. It’s loaded up with options including air conditioning, deluxe leather interior, and power steering. The exterior wears handsome Elkhart Green paint that’s complemented by the tan interior and white convertible top.

C6 Corvette logo neon sign

We know most Corvette owners also have a stash of Corvette memorabilia hanging around the ole man cave and the Big Boy Toy auction presents a great opportunity to add to your collection. It’s hard to pick our favorite piece of automobilia here, but we’re quite smitten with this C6 Corvette logo neon sign.

The sign comes neatly packed in a custom wooden crate. It features the classic C6 Corvette logo with CORVETTE below it in the familiar 6th generation font. Just like the real thing, the crossed flags feature a checkered flag motif on one side a red flag on the other. The photos indicate that it lights up just as it should. If we had the chance, we’d definitely put this sign in our Corvette garage. Or, feel free to purchase it and ship it directly to our Detroit Bureau regional offices.

Freije and Freije Auctions will host their fall Big Boy Toy auction on Saturday, September 16th in Clayton, Indiana. For more information on these Corvettes, any of the other Corvette available, or any of the cool automobilia offered at the event head on over to www.freijeauctioneers.com.
