Is Jake headed to IndyCar?

Marshall Pruett of Racer.com says that Pratt Miller Motorsports, the team behind Corvette Racing, arguably one of the most successful sports car racing teams in the world, is seriously considering adding an IndyCar entry in the next few years.

Pratt Miller Motorsports has already been working in the series since 2012 through its partnership with General Motors. However, many of the projects and resources granted to GM’s IndyCar program have since shifted to Chevrolet’s technical center in Charlotte, and that appears to have freed up the resources at PMM to undertake an IndyCar program. Pruett says no formal launch date has been announced, but they are currently targeting 2025 or 2026 with a full time entry.

“We’re still working through what’s required on the business and technical side of things, but we feel there’s a really good opportunity for us to be in IndyCar in the next couple of years,” Pratt Miller Motorsports VP Brandon Widmer told RACER. “We’re not going to rush into it. We’re looking for the right opportunity for us, and we want to put together a program that’s competitive so we can be racing for wins and championships.”

IndyCar is currently made up of 10 teams fielding 27 full-time entries, and Pruett says the series is ripe for further growth if more teams were involved. Pratt Miller Motorsports says they are looking at adding a strategic partner, but they would retain control of the program.

“We want to come at the series a little bit different,” Widmer said. “People are critical to success, and we want to leverage how we’ve approached other programs from a team operation standpoint. We want to leverage what we’ve done in sports cars, most notably with Corvette Racing, and approach IndyCar a little different in how we assemble a team and how we operate with series-specific needs in IndyCar.”

We’ve got the perfect team name for them should they decide to go for it: IndyCar Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports.
