Corvettes for Sale: This 1954 Corvette is Ready for the Engine of Your Choice

Someone looking for a clean slate to create their own version of a 1954 Corvette might do well to check out this car being offered out of Reading, Pennsylvania on eBay.

But you better hurry as the auction is slated to come to a close at 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20. The reserve has already been met, so you’ll have to offer more than $29,950 if you want to secure the car.

The seller purchased the Corvette more than a year ago after it had been sitting for decades in storage, minus its original motor. He was able to trace the history back more than 50 years, offering this summation in his ad: “I have traced ownership back to 1970; that individual told me he purchased the car then with no drivetrain. I found the name of that owner, but he is apparently deceased. He told me the previous owner was going to swap V8 and 4-speed but gave up. The car has clutch pedals. He purchased the car intent on using the grill for his 57. He kept the car a few years and sold it to the gentleman I purchased it from in 1973.”

We’ve seen a few of these early C1s that have been modernized, and we really like the look. Since the original motor and transmission are long gone from this one, we’d be tempted to go the restomod route, adding a modern Corvette engine and manual transmission and perhaps getting rid of the Polo White paint and coating it instead in a shade from the C7 or C8 palette. How about, say, Hypersonic Gray and keeping the red vinyl seats already in place to provide a nice contrast?

The listing includes a table covered with original parts, including “a nice set” of side curtains, but again since the car will never be original, replacement parts from aftermarket companies could help with the restoration.

What route would you take?
