[VIDEO] Speed Phenom Puts His 2023 Corvette Z06 on the Scales to See Actual Weight

We have dived into this conversation previously about the weight of the new 2023 Corvette Z06. With industry terms such as dry weight, curb weight, and even gross vehicle weight, it’s easy to see how these numbers can get confusing quickly. So instead of discussing what Chevy says or why the weights are so different, we’ve got this excellent video from Speed Phenom that will hopefully answer many of those questions.

We believe Speed Phenom is still making his way back to California after picking up his 2023 Corvette Z06 one week ago in Bowling Green. Since then, he’s done the first Z06 dyno and over the weekend he raced in the half-mile Shift S3ctor Airstrip Attack in Texas.

Today’s video has him hitting a truck stop so he can put the new sports car on their certified “CAT” scales. Chevy says the “dry weight” for the Z06 is 3,434 with the carbon fiber wheels, but that was also a 1LZ, whereas Speed’s Z06 is equipped with the 3LZ package. Speed does two weigh-ins with the car, one with only about 7 gallons of fuel (30%) and the other with a full tank of gas (18.5 gallons). Speed also says all the cargo is out of the car, and it’s completely empty.

C8 Corvette Z06 weighed with 30% fuel

Speed’s first measurement with the 30% fuel load comes in at exactly 3600 lbs. “I have to admit, I am impressed,” says the new Z06 owner. For the second measurement, he fills up the tank to the max with 91 octane (which must mean he is back in California). During the refueling process, he also mentioned that the track wrap on the car was the only non-stock item on it when it was measured. “I have about 5 lbs of track wrap on the front end, the special PPF film that protects the front end of my car until my arrival to California, which is going to be later today, if not tomorrow morning. So, subtract 5 pounds from whatever we have…”

C8 Corvette Z06 weighed with full tank of fuel

Speed Phenom’s second weigh-in with a full load of fuel comes in a 3,680 lbs, which he is obviously very excited about. He says, “I’m actually very impressed because we got it down to 3,600 pounds here on this scale, and considering it’s the most powerful V8 production car having 670 horsepower, 345 wide tires out back and then 275 up front, carbon fiber Wheels, 21-inch wheels, Carbon Ceramics, it weighs pretty similarly to a standard Stingray which that just blows my mind because this car has got so much more performance over and above the Stingray.

Like many track enthusiasts, Speed does say he would like to see an even lighter weight variant in the future, but considering that Chevy offers all the performance and the luxurious creature comforts combined in one package, that could make buying a stripped-down version a hard choice.

Do you find the weight of Speed Phenom’s Z06 acceptable, considering everything it offers? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. 3600 lbs is a tad porky, but those little micro processors from overseas are really heavy! If you believe that call back at 213/5150 for further!

  2. I think these numbers are impressive. 3600 lbs minus 7 gallons puts it
at 3560. Dry weight is less fuel and every other fluid [engine oil, anti freeze washer fluid ] which would put it below 3500 lbs. A remarkable achievement indeed. We have a loaded car
with all the required safety equipment that has been proven successful by several fools on the street. Weighs just 100 lbs or so more than a McLaren carbon fiber tubbed GT. Hard to find
fault when you have a car you can drive cross country and not worry about a thing, including
finding a dealer. Good job Corvette team!
