National Corvette Museum Opens New Driven By Design Exhibit

Corvettes have been a styling success since the first generation, and starting today, the National Corvette Museum is paying homage to more than 70 years of design history with a special 6,500-square-foot exhibit called “Driven by Design.”

The new long-term exhibit, located in the museum’s Design and Engineering Gallery, has been in the works for years, planned by the curatorial staff and co-curator retired GM Design Chief Tom Peters.

Visitors will learn more about the Corvette’s design process as well as take a behind-the-scenes look at the diverse group of people responsible.

Interactive elements, actual tools and models, artifacts, hands-on objects, and motion-activated content are being used to tell the story.

Besides taking a focus on the Corvette Vice Presidents of Design from Harley Earl in the 1950s to Mike Simcoe of the 2020s, the exhibit also reveals more about lesser-known individuals who may not have been in the public eye but nevertheless were instrumental in the design process.

Also included is a full overview of the “intricate and exciting process” of auto design, from sketches and renderings to clay and prove-out models, including exterior and interior design of the past and future.
