Corvette Central Joins with Bloomington Gold to Present the 2022 Gold Collection

Two of our hobby’s most well-known entities are joining forces this summer. The team at Bloomington Gold recently announced that Corvette Central has stepped up to be the presenting sponsor of this year’s Gold Collection at Bloomington Gold.

As “the caretakers of the legend”, Corvette Central has supported Bloomington Gold for many years, but this is the first time they’ve formally joined as a sponsor. “As America’s leading distributor and manufacturer of Corvette parts & accessories since 1975, we felt that Corvette Central was a great fit as presenting sponsor of the Gold Collection”, states Guy Larsen, Owner of Bloomington Gold. “Corvette Central has supported Bloomington Gold’s collections over the years and was, interestingly, a swap vendor back in the early years of Bloomington Gold.”

The Gold Collection is one of Bloomington Gold’s anchor events. It traces its roots back to the Special Collection and Great Hall over the course of the last four decades. The theme for the 2022 Gold Collection is: A Salute to the Gold Collection. For this milestone event, the Gold Collection will celebrate the absolute best of the best and most special Corvettes out there.

Cars participate in the Gold Collection strictly on an invitation-only basis. They can be perfectly restored examples or amazingly preserved unrestored originals. They can be factory racecars or GM styling cars. If it’s a unique or special Corvette and fits the given year’s theme, an owner can apply to show their car. From there, a selection committee will review the car’s resume and, if it’s good enough, formally invite it to participate in the Gold Collection.

Some of this year’s 30ish participants have already been announced and they include: the 1960 Cunningham Lemans Racer, a 1969 ZL1, as well as a 1971 ZR1 and ZR2. 26 other significant Corvettes will join them inside the Bone Student Center on the campus of Illinois State University. That’s the exact same building which hosted the very first Special Collection back in June of 1984.

The Gold Collection will be formally unveiled at 6pm on Thursday, June 9th during the Gold Gala event. Tickets for the Gold Gala are $20 each and can be purchased here. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
