After years of running a private C7 Corvette GT3 car in the ADAC GT Masters series in Germany, Callaway Competition is leaving that competition briefly to concentrate on building a tuned, road-legal version of the C8 for track-day enthusiasts.

Callaway is teaming with Berlin-based exotic car dealer Autohaus Kramm to create the track-ready C8, according to reports this week by GM Authority.

The decision comes after the Callaway team sat down and analyzed the past two years, according to Callaway Competition CEO Ernst Wehr. “It was with a heavy heart that we came to the decision that we would withdraw from the GT Masters for the time being,” he said.

Instead, Callaway needs to conserve its reserves and concentrate more on road vehicles, according to Wehr. “Of course, we’ll continue to keep an eye on the scene and how it develops.”

He says Callaway will be back at the ADAC GT Masters in 2024 as talks continue with GM to field its new Corvette C8 GT3.R customer race car in the series. GM will build those cars itself and sell them to private competitors like Callaway for use in international GT events.

Corvette C8 GT3

Callaway has competed in the ADAC GT Masters since it began in 2007 and has run its own C7 Corvette GT3 car since 2015, becoming the longest-running and most successful team in the series with its car that was designed, engineered, and built in-house at the Callaway shop in Germany. Unlike the 5.5-liter V8 engine found in the C7.R, the Callaway car had an LS-based 6.2-liter V8 and finished as team and driver champions in 2017 as it was able to beat rivals like Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW.
