[PIC] The C8 Mid-Engine Corvette Illuminates its Tail Lights

We’ve been talking about the sightings the two C8 Corvette mid-engine prototypes this week as more and more people have shared images they captured of the car on social media. In the first photos, the front LED headlights were glimpsed and now here’s a new photo showing the C8 Corvette’s rear brake lights illuminated in heavy traffic. These lights look much closer to a final design which probably explains the differences in the rear camouflage coverings over them.

The C8 taillights are a much discussed design point. They showed up in late 2017 in leaked CAD designs that shows the LED projector-style lights would feature a wrap-around design where part of the assembly would show on the side corners. Earlier this month, the C8.R Corvette racer was captured night testing at Sebring and one of the take-aways was that it appeared to have the final design of the tail lights in place. It was easy to spot them at Sebring as they were driving at night and I screen captured this shot that shows the C8.R with its brake lights on.

The design appears to be a representation of the side coves on the Corvette, represented on the C8 generation by the side-intake scoop. That scoop design is also appears to be incorporated in the C8’s key fob that and is represented by the silver trim that surrounds the buttons:

With each sighting and glimpse of the next-generation Corvette I feel like we learn more and more each day. The tail lights on the C8 will be a dramatic focal point for the rear of the car, which as any Corvette enthusiasts will tell you, that’s all anybody sees anyways – the fading tail lights of a Corvette as it leaves you behind…

As soon as I published this story, I saw this tweet showing a Mid-Engine Corvette driving today on Belle Isle in Detroit. Its brake lights are also illuminated but it looks like they are blocking out the inner lights and so only a red stripe shows on each corner:
